It’s clearly all your fault. You’ll have to be nice to him for a few generations, while he continues to insult you. Only then will he be convinced to not call you a Putz.
Hey, look who visited the White House today:
[Quote=Donald Trump on Twitter]
It was a great honor to welcome the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to the @WhiteHouse today!

Who’s left on the “Hosting the World’s Dictators” list?
Proper spelling, special characters… yeah, an obvious staff tweet.
Plus, isn’t it Donnie’s nap time around now?
I call it treason. He just fucked us out of future intel, and burned a good source of current intel. He did it deliberately and of his own free will. We used to send people to prison for that.
Poor sensitive little snowflakes. We hurt their feelz.
I think I can find this much common ground with Rodrick…
Trump is behaving as president exactly as he behaved as a candidate; and he’s doing everything he’d promised he would do. The fact that 40%+ of the electorate voted for this moron, with eyes wide open, indicates something deep and disturbing about us as a nation.
To write off those 40% as irredeemable traitors isn’t helpful. We have to live together, somehow.
…fuck that dude.
This is the fucking pit. People come here to rant, not to have reasoned debate. This forum is an outlet to express ourselves. You are acting like people are defined by what they post here: but they are fucking not. If someone expresses a moment of outrage in the fucking pit that doesn’t mean in real life they are also not capable of asking neutrally worded questions, listening more than they speak, and understanding with respect. We don’t need your fucking lecture.
So get off your fucking horse. You aren’t better than us and your proposed solutions suck. We aren’t talking about the farmer who works 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and voted for Trump because he watches a bit too much Fox News. We are talking about the Nazis, the hypocrites, the privileged, the people who are in power who enable Trump so they can get their agendas passed. That should be fucking obvious.
All right, I apologize for the insult, I had a weak moment. Your original post doesn’t make any more sense to me now than the first time I read it. However, I appreciate your point about republicans/conservatives calling out the Nazis and other extremists as a way of taking responsibility for themselves, that would be a really good step in the right direction. How do you propose to get that to happen?
I don’t know what you mean by “You expect all liberals to take responsibility for the words or actions of all liberals, but refuse to accept the same for your own party.” Some liberals (I presume) in this thread have called out the hyperbole of calling for 45 supporters to be shot and such, is that what you mean? By the way, again I will say that “your own party” is not correct. I am not a republican or a conservative, but I suppose I can’t expect you to have read the entire thread. I am not arguing against liberals’ values, I am arguing against the tactics (and lack of strategy) used by far too many of them, on this board and in the world. I want liberals to be more effective in moving forward their values and resulting agenda. I think it is telling, though, to assume what you did, presumably because I am trying to break the lockstep.
I’ll break it down for you. Forget telling “the liberals” what to do and how to do it. Fuck that. get your own shit, on your own side of the aisle, in your own house together. Calling us out for getting pissed off, is incredibly hypocritical. Fuck that. We didn’t elect the Secret Leaking Traitor In Chief.
Your point seemed to be that I should take the examples of three people (Okrahoma and the two on the radio) as representative of the futility of trying to reason with conservatives. There wasn’t even any attempted reasoning mentioned in your post about the two people on the radio, except in your head.
I don’t know how to say this any more clearly than I already have: ask questions, listen more than you speak, when you speak demonstrate your understanding and respect for the other person even when you strongly disagree with their views. You can’t do it for 5 minutes or 5 weeks and have the right to say “that doesn’t work.”
And although asking several times, I haven’ yet seen any of you offer your own tactics or strategy for winning this struggle in the long term.
I do recognize that there are many immediate issues that need immediate political action, and there’s nothing to say we can’t do both. But there is absolutely no point in folks feeling and acting self-righteous except to make themselves feel good, at the expense of any long-term victory. We have to win some of them over. Not all of them, not even most of them, but enough to be able to keep a majority in Congress for at least a few good years, to pass laws and even constitutional amendments that will be very difficult to undo. There are lots of ways to go about this, including more determined and effective action at the grass-roots level. I believe that one of the tactics that has to be included is for liberals to win over as many 45 voters as are winnable, no matter how long it takes.
Neither did I. I don’t know how you can claim to have read my post and still make this stupid mistake. Note, please, what I have bolded above.
…you will never ever be able to control the “tactics” of liberals.
Because they aren’t “tactics.”
The world isn’t the same as it was 20 years ago. The internet has shattered barriers, bought down walls. The filters are gone. What you lament are not tactics, but peoples thoughts and feelings. People can tweet on twitter, blog on their website, write a medium post, live stream on periscope of facebook live.
You can’t stop people ranting. And you can’t stop people listening. This is the world that we live in now. So stop being the tone police, stop with the self-righteous rhetoric and go do something useful with your life.
Roderick, what do I say when a family member makes it clear that they don’t care about allegations of sexual assault because “he’s a good businessman?” If I point out that I have been assaulted in such a way and they shrug and say “I don’t care about that?” Or if they say"jobs! Wall!" when I ask them some new horror in the news with Trump’s fingerprints all over it?
Nitpick
55.7% of the electorate voted in total. Trump got 46.1% of those votes. This means that we’re talking about 25% of the electorate.
Carry on with your discussion. /nitpick
Those were examples only of how your general advice plays out with real people. I didn’t say they were representative. Engaging with you is tiresome, so I’ll leave that to others henceforth.
Nazis?!? Where? I don’t know what’s funnier the hysteria that people are demonstrating about Trump or that the 2nd thread making fun of liberals got locked while there are roughly 2818362718191837662.2 threads on Trump.
You make good points. Sorry if I come across as superior, it is not felt or intended. Perhaps this debate would be better served in a different forum. Would attitudes be different in Great Debates?
So you aren’t talking about the farmer because he’s not pit-worthy? Fair enough, but he is probably among those who are most susceptible to change.
Some of the responses I’ve gotten in this thread make me wonder how much of a difference a different forum would make. The natural way to find out is to start such a thread, but my previous experience in trying to start serious threads in GD is that they fall off the first page like a stone. I don’t seem to have the knack for getting sustained interest. But I’ll stop bothering y’all about tactics in this forum.
Can you link to the locked thread you refer to? I’m not finding it. Thanks.
< taps mike> is this thing on?
