Buttcrack montage: social commentary or cyberbullying?

Despite opinions stated here, mocking and shaming actually has a pretty good historical track record of altering behaviour. No one in this montage/album was identified. They were used as examples of something kinda gross without personally shaming them.

Then I will accede to the opinion it is kinder to inform people directly that they smell offensive.

I agree. If he’d superimposed front shots of the photo subjects alongside, thus identifying them, it would have crossed over into being completely mean. Can you imagine seeing your own face plastered on that? Or one of your family or friends seeing it the next week?

As it is, the people in the photos know who they are, but most other people don’t - certainly nobody who wasn’t there. Maybe a good wake-up call for the subjects, and a good laugh at a general phenomenon rather than a singling out of individual people.

That was my point in this thread. At some point a person’s ignorance is a bigger concern than their dignity. With most people in the US, this often happens with ‘wardrobe malfunctions’ like exposed asscrack, or foul body odor.

That’s how I would have taken it if I recognized my exposed buttcrack in the photos. I’d be embarassed, sure, but I’d also remember to pull up my pants. And I’m willing to bet that at least some of these neckbeards are sentient enough to pull up their pants at future MtG tournaments, since its now been established there may be a smartass lurking among their herd making them a ‘butt’ of a joke on Reddit :stuck_out_tongue:

I totally agree with you. I don’t think people have a right to not be mocked when they disregard the most basic principles of public hygiene. Yes, there are situation in which actual medical issues can present obstacles to following the world’s social norms. This is not one of those situations. Do people want to see your asshair? No they do not. It’s as comfortably black and white as it is possible for a social norm to be. If you are functional enough to be in public without supervision, you are functional enough to remember and observe this rule.

If you simply don’t care about being filthy in public, then no harm done when you are mocked anonymously. If you are embarrassed when your exposed asscrack is shown as an example of disgusting inconsiderate behavior… cover your asscrack in the future.

It may not have been intended to do its subjects a favor (clearly it was done for amusement), but that doesn’t mean the subjects can’t take it as one.

That guy taking the pics Kills me, he is so earnest and sincere looking in every one of those pics its like some surreal plea. His soul is burning from all that exposed ass crack energy wafting around the place.
