I was on the beach with Pricegal the other day. Since the waters are shallow for quite a long way out, there’s a gangplank (not sure if that’s the correct term) terminating in a flight of stairs down into the water. We’ve finished bathing and are returning when we pass two young men standing on the gangplank. One of them has his jeans open, his boxershorts in plain view, and his hand in his boxershorts. I’m not sure if he was jerking off or not, but he may well have. I don’t know what else he could have been doing.
As we pass, I cannot shut up, so I say the Swedish equivalent of “Oh for fuck’s sake!”, basically trying to convey what an utter chimpanzee the guy is. There’s always a tiny chance that it’ll get through. He’s offended and starts shouting after me as I walk, what a moron I am, how he’s going to kick my ass if I come back there. I pretend not to hear and keep walking. He didn’t try to kick my ass though; after all there were only two of them and an entire one of me.
I know this is nothing. I know people get killed and beaten and raped and robbed every second of every day, by guys much like these two. But I had to mention this experience anyway, for the question it provokes:

Seriously. Here’s a guy (and a friend of his) who apparently thinks that jerking off in public is somehow appropriate and polite. He also thinks that should someone call him on that behaviour, it is within his right to yell and threaten. How do you get so entirely wrong? I really don’t get it. How can you possibly miss everything there is to know about decency and morality? And, above all, how can you willingly be a part of a problem?
If this were the only guy like this, fine. But it’s most of an entire fucking generation. A generation of men who have the absolutely wrong idea of what a man is like. A generation of people who care about themselves and what they can do, not what it means to anyone else. How do you get this fucked up? How does it happen to so many at the same time? And most important of all, how do we get them back?
Sometimes I think we should just blow up enough nukes to exterminate humanity and leave Earth to the cockroaches. Or maybe perfect that woman-woman-baby technique and make the birth of new boys illegal. You don’t see women acting like violent assholes.
Peeing on the gangplank would be quite rude as well, methinks. I saw him from quite some way away and he had the hand there the entire time.
I too need to scratch or adjust the apparatus from time to time. So far, I’ve never needed to unbutton and unzip my jeans, pull them down five inches, and hold my hand in my crotch for two minutes straight in order to do so. I don’t want to watch other people scratching their balls so I don’t force them to watch me.
But that’s beside the point anyway. The only thing this guy did was actualize the questions of why people are fucked up and what to do about it.
I ask myself the same thing. It’s as if folks of my age (I’m 49) couldn’t be bothered to teach their kids manners and proper behavior. I look at some of my daughter’s peers and I’m aghast they act as they do and their parents don’t seem to care.
What can we do? I have no idea. I did my best to raise a child who would fit comfortably into polite society. I’m sure she’ll do the same when she has kids. Unfortunately, they continue to reproduce, too. Can we establish an island nation of boors and dump them all there? Personally, I blame Jerry Springer and his ilk. TV has made such conduct seem acceptable, or at least entertaining. :rolleyes:

Read the thread, nisosbar. I acknowledged that this was nothing and have already stated that it only actualized the questions I’m asking. Anyway, that worse things could happen doesn’t mean this is proper. If you think it’s okay to stand around jerking off because there happens to be babes in bikinis in the vicinity… well, I pity all the babes in your vicinity.
I know exactly what beach PriceGuy went to. I go there myself. And so do thousand of others on a warm summer day. People who jerk off in public used to be called perverts. I believe that in most parts of the US it would be considered indecent exposure. I’m actually not sure what laws would apply here but pointing out an incredibly rude behaviour and commenting on the fact that this is a sign of something or another, is hardly WASPY-y and prudish.

It’s still very rude. And I, who was a 6’4" rude, loud and obnoxious teen myself, think that things indeed are worse. The amount of male teens who have no inhibitions seem to increase every year.
It’s not rude, it’s behavior common in places where people go and leave themselves scantily clad, though typically, there are discrete places where people go to seek that kind of thing. I have absolutely no problem with it, since it doesn’t interfere with my rights in any shape, way or form.

There are limits to acceptable behavior. Public masturbation may not interfere with your rights, whatever that means, but it’s rude and uncivilized. And the threat of violence that followed Priceguy’s mild expression of distaste was worse.
