After reading a few of the pit threads, I can’t help but notice how often people call for stoning of other members whenever they get offended. As soon as someone gets even slightly offended, they want the offender banned or suspended. Why is it so important that anyone must take offending YOU PERSONALLY into such a consideration that they must tailor each post to fit YOUR needs (whatever THEY might be)?
What might offend some people, might not offend others. If you’re a mature adult and you wander into the Pit or any other place where a diversity of opinions and/or levels of humor might exist, be prepared to be offended. Why is it so important to try to make your way through life in some bubble without ever hearing something that upsets you? They make drugs for people like you now! Take some!
What’s the deal here? What satisfaction do you get by trying to quiet someone who wasn’t even talking to you personally? Or someone who’s clearly kidding?
How can a free exchange of ideas occur if everyone must say only what you already agree with?
I’ve been on these boards for almost four years (and boy, are my fingers tired - badumpbump), and I can count the times I’ve been offended on the fingers of one hand. I barely even notice other people getting offended anymore. I just chalk it up to the Offenderati (are we still using that, or is it too last November?) and ignore them. Some people are just born with wadded panties.
Rooves if you really want to see anger and split start a thread about how you dropped a piece of litter while walking down the road smoking and bitching about stupid Christian fundies.
…and on that road you were almost hit by someone driving a huge SUV, and after it drove by, a lady breastfeeding her child in public on the side of the road laughed at you…
…and then Bushco awarded a no-bid contract for the clean-up of the litter and launched an preemptive attack on the lady breastfeeding in public (who was, after all, a lesbian who wanted to get married)…
I, for one, thank my Judeo Christian GOD that the OP had the courage and fortitude to say what has certainly NEVER EVER been brought up EVER in the history of the SDMB.

I really agree with this OP. I wandered in here thinking I could post an opinion and it would be considered just that, an opinion. Then I found out that if the opinion wasn’t acceptable, the individual was attacked - WTF. It didn’t change my posts but it did make me believe that a lot of people who post here aren’t exactly fighting ignorance. IMO.
No, but I amost wish it was. I missed that one but on the surface it has all the markings of an interesting read. Jarbaby , You almost had me when I saw “Never” but when I saw that you were saying “never EVER”, it was clear that you were mocking me.
