Butthurt Great Americans

Yep, that’s the least.

And worst of all, the powdered wigs are really going to itch.

None of this will happen. It’s pure insanity, even moreso than the OP

Do you really think there have been white mobs just waiting for a cheeto-faced moron to take power so that they could get back to lynching and burning? If so, your view of humanity is even bleaker than I thought.

People talk about the KKK in this thread as if they are scary and relevant, the Southern Poverty Law Center estimates their membership at 5000 - 8000 people. That is NOTHING, they have no power, their endorsement of Trump means less than if the American Society of Quilters (over 37,000 strong) had endorsed a candidate.

Because you had one bad encounter with a judgmental, mean weirdo, that gives you the right to be another mean, judgmental weirdo?

Sorry, but after crying wolf too many times, I can’t take libs seriously anymore with all the “feelings porn” narratives & strawmen. Instead of taking a step back to honestly consider solid reasons for the Trumplash, so many libs double down & keep digging themselves deeper into denial.

It’s not that the majority of the country is “racist” or “bigoted” or “x-phobic” it’s that we’re sick of the constant bombardment of shitty reasoning coupled with feelings porn. Sorry, but the “piss on their legs & tell them it’s raining” crap has run its course. The spoiled child is overdue for a spanking to bring it back down to reality.

I’ve copied Mr. Trihs’ predictions and will make a note to myself to revisit them in a year.

If I’m not in one of the camps, that is

We understand, and we’re very grateful for the time you spent taking us seriously in the past, before this terrible situation forced your hand.

Dyed-in-the-wool KKK members may be few and far between, but people who think Muslims should be deported by force, or round up into camps, or forcefully converted? People who think trans and gay people should be forcefully un-transed and un-gayed? People who think interracial marriage should be illegal again? Add those together, and it’s probably in the tens of millions.

If you believe that the things that I listed are not likely to happen with a Republican President and a Republican Congress, then you’ve got all the sense of a paper towel tube.

He doesn’t like Trump, he just hates us a lot more.

Several tens of millions of them, yes. That’s why and how Trump was elected, on the votes of would-be tyrants, theocrats and genocidal killers.

The *reality *being that the Right is composed of bigots and sadists. And the “spanking” being the people who denied that reality being oppressed, tortured, raped and killed while they scream that it can’t be happening.

The Democrats haven’t been crying wolf; they’ve been loudly denying there* are* any wolves while the wolves run around eating people.

I didn’t say anything about camps; I said mass killing. You don’t need camps for that.

And if you think that I’ll be *unhappy *to be wrong you are deluding yourself.

And when none of this comes to pass will you retract any of your hysterical prophecies?

I cannot relate to this story specifically: I’m not in an oppressed minority and, anyway, my social instincts are poor.

I do, however, have a (fairly passive or vague) acquaintance with certain facets of society (e.g. street people) and I CAN attest that there are some facets of American life that are invisible to many Dopers. I’ve often seen Dopers astounded by accounts, e.g. by former street people, that clearly matched my own experiences. The responses to you in this thread bring those other threads to mind.

Paraphrasing from Blues Brothers, I imagine some Dopers saying
“Oh, we’re familiar with BOTH kinds of American here! Urban elites AND bland suburbanites.”

No, you didn’t say anything about camps. I did. Well spotted.

What a strange interpretation. Your future happiness or unhappiness has nothing to do with my point. Actually, simply recognizing you might be wrong is more than sufficient.

They’re already talking about internment camps for Muslims and they aren’t even in office yet; how am I being “hysterical”?

Oh, let me guess. We’re all supposed to try real hard to pretend that they don’t mean anything they are saying, right up until we personally are dragged away to our death. They’re Republicans, so it’s taboo to admit that they could *possibly *be bad people.

I suspect the answer to who ‘they’ is will provide the answer to your question as well.

Care to tell us who ‘they’ is?

“They” for now seems to be Carl Higbie, a Trump supporter with no apparent official connection to his campaign or transition team.

Exactly.

And yet Higbie has stated for the record that he does not agree with interment camps and is not proposing them and has in fact referred to them as ‘horrific’.

So yeah, Der Trihs as usual is being hysterical.

Actually, he’d probably be clawing at the lid of his coffin…

No, it hasn’t happened all the time, in each and every place where there is police, and there is a huge difference between places where if it happens it’s viewed as unacceptable and those where it is viewed as the default. One of the things that weakened ETA was that a big source for them was “immigrants” (in “” because they used to be from other Spanish regions) and the current immigrants hear our police called brutal and laugh their pants off.

Der Trihs is frequently hysterical but that quote you think proves your point really doesn’t. Higbie’s “I’m not saying we should have internment camps; I’m just saying we need to protect America and, y’know, there’s precedent…” is not exactly a strong repudiation of the idea.

And then there’s Kris Kobach, current SoS for Kansas and Trump adviser:

Nothing to worry about there, nope.
