Buyer's remorse (I got a new fridge)

My furnace is probably 30 years old. It’s a Frigidaire from back when that meant something. It’s built like a tank. Actually, tanks should be built this good. The squirrel-cage fan has replaceable bearings with oilers. Every year I put in a couple of drops of oil and it’s good to go. My refrigerator is probably 20 years old. Again, built at a time when they were made to last.

It’s strange, cars seem to be built better and last longer but newer washers, dryers and refrigerators seem to be just the opposite.

Around here the electric company will buy your old fridge from you. They don’t play much (I think it’s 30 or 40 dollars) but better than nothing and you don’t have to worry about figuring out how to get it carted away. Not that that’s an issue here either, but some places it is. But basically, if you don’t have use for a 2nd fridge, check with your power company and see if they have such a program.

At least you didn’t have to drive all the way to Ogdenville to get it.

In a different thread, he indicated Singapore.

I had no idea about returns in other countries. Might be an interesting thread on its own.

Well, apart from the 3 fridges for alcohol, they theoretically save a heap of money on rent and utilities.

I don’t charge them rent or board, they get WIFI internet, pay TV and I cook most nights. They come and go as they please, do their own laundry and clean up the kitchen and other mess they make.

Works reasonably well.
