So my spare bedroom is getting a mattress upgrade. Sort of. I’m tossing out the decades old full-sized mattress and box, and putting in my only 1 decade old queen mattress.
The problem is that I can’t fit a queen-sized box up the stairs. I had to get mine up by going through the window. Now, I can do that again if I have to, but I’d rather just get a split box so I can just walk it (them) up.
Where’s the best place to purchase box springs, especially one likely to have a split queen sized box? Just your typical American Mattress found in every strip mall in the nation, or does it need to be more specialized?
We bought a split queen box spring when we moved to Pittsburgh, for the same reason you’re getting one. I don’t remember where we ended up buying it, but I don’t remember us having much trouble finding a mattress store that sold them.
Maybe a store somewhere where there are a lot of older houses would be a good bet?
Buy a bed platform instead. I’m using this one from Walmart (it’s a queen by default, & expandable to a king). It’s $110 online right now (free shipping site-to-store!), which is cheaper than what I paid for it a year ago. It’s really easy to put together and no tools required, just a bunch of wing nuts to twist. The box is quite small.
