Buying a second car

Since moving back to Wisconsin, my husband and I decided to buy a second car.we have a Canyon, but my 84 yo mum can not get in it. Went to a local dealer, a town away. My husband and I were dressed casually. The salesman came out. He started steering us to used cars. We had decided We wanted a year end new trax. The salesman kept showing us used cars.. So I said we wanted new because of warranty etc. ok then. Took us for a test drive, Asked questions. Found out we lived and worked overseas for 17 years in the oil and gas. Instead focus change. Hee hee he has a new car sale. We’re happy.

Don’t leave us hanging. What’d you get?

2019 Chevy AWD Trax Deep discounts.

Yay! New car smell!

So because of the casual dress, he thought you were poor? Surely in these days when everyone dresses casually, car dealers know enough not to make assumptions about people’s net worth based on what they’re wearing? (Look at Mark Zuckerberg, for example. Even after taking his company public, he still dressed like a college student. I did see him dressed more formally recently, and also when he and other technology CEOs were at the Obama White House.)

Friend of mine once went to a Ford dealership to look at trucks. He is First Nations, and was in casual clothes. The salespeople ignored him and finally sent out a junior dude to talk to him.

Oh, did I mention my friend had just won a little over $900,000 in a scratch game?

He said he wanted two new loaded F150’s - one for him and one for his dad. Write up an order. Suddenly the other salesdudes were all over the place, trying to shove the junior guy out of the way. To his credit, my friend told them all to get lost, he was dealing with this nice salesguy who was good enough to talk to him in the first place.

That’s wasn’t where I was going with that…I think it was because we’re old geezers:D. And I wasn’t wearing my pearls, that’s casual to me. Hehe

I don’t know about the casual dress. I always wear jeans and a sport shirt. But when I went to look at cars, having parked my 17 year old car on the lot, not only did the salesman assume that I was looking for a new car, he even guessed correctly that I would be paying cash and never even mentioned loans.
