Buying cigarettes online

Has anyone done this? Any site sugestions? Do they keep billing you or is it easy to cancel? Your opinions please.

Yes.

Just google up the word and you’ll get a bunch of hits. I use it to shop by price.

A lot of sites seem to be run by American Indian tribes.

Note: do to a new law they will not ship to New York State.

Oh, edit…

To answer your second question: Each transaction is an individual one. They don’t keep billing you. And they likely won’t take cards…you may need a check handy for a one-time electric check transaction (they’ll want the numbers at the bottom of the check and your authorization approving it).

I have heard that the state of PA is now going after people who bought online to collect taxes on the sales. I dunno if it is true though, but I have heard it. Just FYI.

Keep in mind that you are expected to pay sales tax on your purchases, be it now or years down the line.

Question: are you required to pay sales taxes on items delivered from another country? If not, an oversees company would be the way to go.

Not sales tax per se, but excise taxes. Or at least, in addition to sales taxes.

I bought ciggies online once or twice years ago. However, there have been several high profile cases of state or local governments obtaining customer database and going after them. That was enough to make me balk. Secondly, the brand names are the same, made under license, but the product is not the same.

I’ve heard California is nasty about it too. I haven’t kept up with the news in this field, since the last time I bothered to look was when a lot of those websites were shutting down in the face of litigation; I guess they must’ve found safe haven in some state or country since, but I already quit so I’m not about to care personally.

Its true. Right now they have been going after some bigger fish, people with thousands of cases on their accounts.

I doubt they will go after everyone since the cost of trying to nail someone with a couple of cases isn’t worth the return. But they would likely bag a few small frys just to make an example of them.

Illinois is going after people also. A friend of mine got nailed for over $1000. Both she and her husband are pretty heavy smokers and had been buying online for several years. That was a nasty surprise.
