If you do ever drive up to Chicago, it might be worth your while to stroll down Devon Ave. and check out the Indian groceries. There are all sorts of rice, beans and other legumes, flour (not just wheat, but chickpea and some others), spices, tea, and just about any kind of bulk food a person could want. And the prices are fabulous. Fresh Farms has the widest variety of groceries, but Patel Bros. and Kamdar Plaza have a pretty wide variety too. Plus it’s fun! Especially on a weekend afternoon when the weather is nice, it’s like taking a trip to South Asia.
I don’t drive into Chicago if I can possibly help it, I’d rather poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick. I take the train(s). Which doesn’t rule out a shopping expedition, but I think I’ll keep looking into on-line ordering.
Try King Arthur Flour for your wheat flour. Their shipping prices are not out of line and the quality is very high. Don’t have the link right now but easily googleable.
