Buying stolen goods...

Thanks, Wring.

Hey, anyone know Skummet’s address? (only kidding)

Didn’t I just say that this one would be easy for you Glee? However I don’t see any of the Previously So Certain weighing in here which gives me hope. Sure all the stuff I described is illegal (BTW in that example it would be my buddy coming to my tribunal not vica-versa) but this isn’t a legal issue, it is an ethical issue. The laptop was there, it was going to be thrown out, nobody was harmed or disadvantaged in its theft, one could even say that there were only positive consequences to taking it; what is so wrong about that. And before you get all legal on me again, lets not forget that illegal isn’t the same thing as wrong.

Moonshine,

you posted ‘The laptop was there, it was going to be thrown out, nobody was harmed or disadvantaged in its theft, one could even say that there were only positive consequences to taking it; what is so wrong about that?’

Just that you didn’t do the legal paperwork, as I suggested above. If the firm found out what you’d done, there might be real trouble for you. (And I do agree your intentions were good  )

Further ‘And before you get all legal on me again, lets not forget that illegal isn’t the same thing as wrong.’

Of course wrong has several definitions. One is:
‘contrary to law or morals; as in - it is wrong to steal’.

You have to be very stupid or a big liar to say “since it was already stolen I have no responsibility”. Laptos are stolen to be sold. If there were no buyers, there would not be stolen.

I remember a prgram on TV about the ivory trade. It is illegal to buy ivory and when they confronted a buyer he said “well, the elephant is dead and I did not kill it, I cannot see how I have any responsibility”. This guy is an idiot or a liar. Let’s see, you buy a piece of ivory which is on a shelf, now there is an empty space on the shelf which needs to be filled for the next buyer. Hmmm… where could we get more ivory?

I’ll tell you one thing, I would not associate with people who buy stolen stuff. In fact, if you were in DC I’d report you to the police. I guess I do not feel strongly enough to call the Danish police." But maybe some Danish poster would feel like I do: http://www.politi.dk/polkreds/politikredse.htm
