The back story came from this thread:
I paid a visit to JCPenny’s today while we were in the mall, and found a cute set in my sizes (they were separates). On sale! Then I dropped by JoAnn’s fabrics and bought a 1/2 yard of blue satin-y organza-ish stuff to match, whipped out the sewing machine, and voilà!
Now, I have a babydoll that will fit my boobies! And panties that match and fit!WhoooHoo!
FaerieBeth
And you’ll be modeling these…
I think the mods would frown on that…
FB
Take some pics modelling them, put them online somewhere, and then put the link in your SDMB profile. And you’ll be guaranteed to get a few hits.
Anyhoo…
I’m with Mr. Blue Sky on this. It will be a lot easier to assess the quality of the workmanship with it filled out properly.
BTW FaerieBeth, How you doin?
FaerieBeth, I think there would be a large group of dopers who would love to see you in this. You are quite good looking.
That looks like it would be so cute and sexy!
monica, I think it’s cute. I didn’t do too poor a job on the sewing part, either. At least, I don’t think my home-ec teacher is rolling over in her grave.
Mr. Blue Sky, dcordell1960, and Venus Probe: Thanks for the compliments, and perhaps I will work on the crippling self-consciousness (re: I think I am too chunky) that prevents me from providing a picture of myself in lingerie. The picture I put in the current picture thread (of me in my maroon pjs) took all the daring I could muster.
On the whole, I have been very satisfied with this attempt at subverting the mainstream lingerie machine. The skirt on the blue one is mostly fitted, though, and I think I’d like to try for a more fluttery skirt on my next endeavor.

I’m impressed with that tiny little hem you put on the skirt. I’ve worked with slinky fabric before and it’s not fun.
Very nice, job, though I agree that the skirt could be flouncier. And I also admire that hem! That material is such a bear to work with sometimes. Did you hem by machine or hand, and did you baste it first? I had to do hems on a satin bridesmaid dress with chiffon overlay (and still haven’t been paid for it) and it was a nightmare!
And who said sewing isn’t sexy?
I did the hem on the machine, but pressed it down first. It’s a roll hem, too, so I wouldn’t have any raw edges.
Sewing is very sexy!

FB, just one man’s poll, but at least half of the people who have the opinion of themselves that you post (I don’t imagine it’s high on your list to see quoted “I think I am too chunky” every time you read this thread;)) are in fact quite attractive. To me, anyway, and if there is one thing I’ve learned about this crowd it’s that folks who think a person is physically ugly will usually not say as much, leaving room for the folks who think otherwise:)
Oh, Faerie Beth, it’s very delicate and flowy and girly. It reminds me of a mermaid for some reason. Good job!
If you want the bottom to be fuller, you could try cutting a gored skirt. Or a Roaring '20s-ish handkerchief skirt. It would be fun to play with bias, too. Or, ooh, tiny box pleats. Or you could make a gypsy-inspired baby doll with silk scarves.
Hmm, I may have to go through my stash of fluttery fabrics and play this weekend.
Sewing is the sexiest thing, ever.
