Good riddance to a nasty obfuscator.
“Integrity”? In what sense does endless misleading statements, shifting blame, and diversionary tactics qualify as “integrity”?
Hmph. Glad to see him gone, in any case.

I’d like to be happy, but Bush will replace him with someone with the same charming personality traits as McClellan, just like McClellan was the same as the guy before him.
Bushs press secretaries always made me think of a David Alan Grier line from the Gulf War I press conference skit on In Living Color. When asked a question, DAG replied
“I’ll never tell. Your feet smell. Ask me again and you can go to hell.”
That’s all press secretaries. Not just the Bush ones.
Even the one on the West Wing!
I can’t comment on this as long as the investigation is ongoing.
No doubt there. To me though, the current ones have just seemed more belligerently obfuscatory.
Really? Scott and George sitting in rocking chairs and talking about the Clinton years?
Maybe Bush should see if he can hire that former Iraqi Press Minister. I wish McClellan well- surely trying to put a positive spin on a disastrous administration day after day must take its toll on you.
It’s exactly what he was hired for?
Ron Ziegler reprises his Nixon white house role, this time as a Zombie!
You mean this guy? (Sniff) … Good times.
That’s the dude. Boy, he was fun. I mean, if we’re going to get lied to, why not hire the best?
Hmm, yes, the timing is a bit unusual - s’pose Fitzpatrick has been talking to him as well? It’s not like he needed to, even with the slow-motion, half-assed “staff shakeup” that Bolten (not Bush or even Cheney) has started doing. Any utterly-loyal propagandist is as good as any other in that job.
Who was the last PS to go on to be a respected commentator afterward? Bill Moyers? Pierre Salinger?
The timing that seems likeliest to me is the new Chief of Staff, who said a couple days ago, “If you’re planning on leaving, leave now.” I suspect McClellan was sick of the job, and decided to get out while the going was good.
Daniel
That assumes that those gentlemen were respected.
I expect McClellan is going to be muttering to himself and rocking gently in a corner for the rest of his days.
I kind of figured the reason they picked old “Flop Sweat McClellan” was because he had the lack of self esteem to keep himself in front of the firing squad till 2009. Guess not.
Guess not.
I hope Scotty’s future consulting position makes up for his ulcer and other health problems he’s no doubt picked up over the years.

I’m not in the habit of defending Elvis, but c’mon. Bill Moyers is highly respected, even if you don’t like him personally. That’s kinda like suggesting that Henry Kissinger isn’t respected.
Daniel
I never understood why Bush picked Ari Fleisher or McClellan as his press secretaries. Shouldn’t you want someone with the slightest bit of charisma or likeability? Being cool under fire is a very good quality, but that seems to be the only positive quality that either have had.
I feel sorry for Scotty. He was handed an impossible job and had neither the brains nor gravitas nor slickness to do it smoothly. In a way, that was good for us, as it was so easy to see the stonewalling, backpedaling, obfuscating etc. I fear that the next person won’t make it so obvious, more along the lines of a Ari Fleisher or Joe Lockhart. Since whoever is in the role will simply be carrying out the orders handed him, or her, I’m not sure getting someone in with better stonewalling, backpedaling, obfuscating abilities is a good thing for the country. It’s a good thing for Bush, probably not so much for those of us who would like answers.
Gotta agree…I’m surprised that Scott’s head hasn’t exploded yet.
