Bye, Opal

Terrible news. I don’t have the words to say more :frowning:

  1.
  2. :frowning:
  3. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

This is so sad, condolences to her mom

::Tears:: Goodbye Opal. You will be missed… :frowning:

This is shocking and tragic. My thoughts are with her loved ones.

Thanks, TubaDiva. Based on her recent public history, I was more inclinedtothink it was not intentional, that whatever problems she had, she was able to overcome them this time. I definitely cannot make it to Tucson, but I could go to the Atlanta Memorial Service. I thought since she moved to Atlanta, I could finally see her. :frowning:

Way back in 2011, OpalCat was looking for a part-time office-y job, so I alerted her to an opening in my department. She worked here as our Department Admin for about a year and a half, until her husband finished his residency and they moved to Atlanta.

Working with her was a trip. In a good way. She was quirky and odd and always had something new going on. And she took what could have been a blow-off job and treated it with serious respect. She was fantastic at organizing and documentation. On Friday I almost recycled the out-of-date manual she wrote for us, and I am now glad I didn’t. She gave us one of her paintings to keep. It’s hung amongst the museum pieces we have on the walls (on loan from the art museum because they don’t have enough storage space).

I’ll miss you, OpalCat.

Be very much at peace, Opal

This is such terrible news. My condolences to her family.

My condolences to her family.

I didn’t suspect suicide, because if it had been intentional, I think Opal would have posted online a long, dramatically detailed and illustrated note, with links and a forum.

Just saw this.

Condolences to the family.

:frowning:

This place is starting to get depressing. After more than a decade hanging around here (I did sign up for a long time) people are starting to die. But Opal, really? She was around my age (I think) and such a part of the culture of this place.

Dammit!

That hadn’t occurred to me, but I suspect you’re right. Or else started a thread asking for input on how she should do it based on xyz very specific factors and then shot down every single suggestion anyone made.

Snarking about Opal? In her death announcement thread? Really? Jesus.

What in the entire fuck is wrong with yall?

People grieve in their own ways, privately and publicly.

Rethinking, I guess maybe they didn’t mean it viciously and were just remembering Opal in a teasing way?

I didn’t know her well, so I will just say that it’s sweet that so many dopers are remembering her so fondly.

I haven’t posted in years, but I was on the boards regularly 10 or 15 years ago and well remember Opal - this is very sad news indeed, and I add my condolences to her family and friends.

I’m sorry to hear this. Condolences to all her loved ones.

She was a very unique woman. I didn’t interact with her much myself, but it would be hard to overstate her impact on this board.
