Exactly. We rarely chatted online, even way back when, but this is very sad news.
It’s been a while since I thought of her, to be honest, but she was an institution around here and will be missed. RIP, Opal.

Opal was the first person on the SDMB I ever talked to online.
I watched her struggle and fight serious and sometimes crippling depression for 13 years, and we tried to help each other a couple of times. We butted heads in public now and then, but privately we shared more, talking as two people suffering from depression can. When my depression was finally cured I hoped that she had also found something to help her, and that she had moved on to happier things, but a review of the items she posted out there recently are saddening.
I don’t have any closing words.
RIP.
We hadn’t interacted in years, but she is (and will remain) a legend of the board.

I’ve known Opal online for almost half my fucking life. We always talked about how we should meet, but we never did. Always figured we’d get together eventually. Fuck, this is sad. I’m going to go cry some.

I’m very sorry to hear this. I never interacted with her but it was impossible to hang out on the Dope for long without hearing something from or about her. My condolences to her family and those here who knew her.
