I have been stuck on week 6 for what seems like an eternity. I don’t know if I should try to repeat it again or just jump to week seven and see what happens. It’s rainy and gross today, and my gym is closed because all the students are out of the town (lame). So I guess I am going to try to run on the streets once I get home.
I have a clip-on red blinky light that I use on my bike, so I might wear that even if it launches me into the nerdy stratosphere, but my friend got hit on her bike the other night so I’m paranoid. Here’s hoping to not freeze to death and to not be killed by Athens’ drivers…
Week 6 day 1 finished. That was substantially easier than week 5 day 3 was. Day 2 should be doable too, but day 3 looks like death waiting to happen. I can see why your stuck on week 6 Time Stranger. Heck, it took me 3 weeks to get through week 5.
Week 4 Day 1 v2 is in the books. Cutting out the pre-run stretch and/or slowing down my pace seems to be helping immensely. Only bad part was that my girl didn’t run with me tonight as she wasn’t really feeling up to it. I’ll get her out on Wednesday and Friday, though.
Also did Week 3 Day 2 of the Pushups after some days off (just forgot). Sets of 20-25-15-15-30. The last set was a bear. Pecs are a bit sore.
I treated myself to some outdoor running clothes today. I got awesome deals at TJMaxx on a wicking underlayer of tights and a shirt. I also got some long shorts that are made out of a sweat pant material because I’m of the opinion that nobody needs to see my butt in running tights until I’ve been running for much, much longer than three and a half weeks. I picked up a fleece vest that is also labeled as wicking at Target. I didn’t reread any of the notes posted about proper outdoor running dress before I left, so I was going off of the vague memory that wicking is good and to dress as if it’s twenty degrees warmer out. I feel like I have a good start. I like a total geek in the getup, but I feel uber-sporty.
Oh, oh, I got a hat too! No gloves yet. I could only find really bulky ones. I might wait for another pay check or Christmas to get those though. I spent way too much today (but would have spent three times as much if I had gotten everything at full price), but it felt like an awesome reward for sticking with this running thing.
Depending on the weather there, you could try knit gloves. They’re generally cheap and adequate down to about 40F. Or look for silk glove liners, Totes driving gloves or wool gloves. You don’t really need much bulk unless you have “cold” hands.
I feel like such a slacker. The last time I tried to run (Sat, Nov. 15), I started walking near then end of the first 10 minute interval because the headache that woke me up in the night had returned. I walked the rest of the way.
Since then we’ve had snow and since I run in the road (no sidewalks), I haven’t been out. We’re visiting my parents for Thanksgiving and they have sidewalks and no snow so I hope to run off all the calories that I’ll be eating.
Congrats to everyone else and thanks for keeping me from slacking too much. It’s good to have accountability.
MissMossie, also check Land’s End for their fleece wind check or block gloves. I forget the exact name but they do a good job of blocking some wind and don’t get saturated w/ sweat. Plus they are a lot cheaper than my expensive UnderArmour gloves which I wear when it’s below 30 (like today).
Well, to go with all my purchases yesterday, I finally went to the running store and plopped down a large chunk of change on a pair of shoes. I’m trying to tell myself that much of the money I spent was for the personal attention and analysis of my stride. I found out that my arches are normal and I don’t pronate. I also have a somewhat inefficient beginner’s stride.
I can’t believe I spent as much as I did on a pair of shoes. Wow. I hope I get a chance to do my run today. I’m working tonight at 5:30 and am waiting on my car’s oil to be changed right now. After dropping almost $200 all together on running gear this week, I better get out there and run!
Did only 1.4 today. Grrrr. BUT I have noticed that about 10 minutes in, I want to puke. And then about 13 minutes in, I burp and immediately feel better. I got a stitch in my side today (ugh). My GI tract hates me.
I have made an executive decision, though: if and when I run a 1.4, I must do a 1.9 the next time out. I want the 1.9 to become my base run and then alternate between 1.9 and say 2.6 or so, but so far I haven’t driven a route out. I’ll get there.
I wear polar fleece gloves that have glove “fingers” but also mitten “tops” that I an pull off and velcro to the back of my hands. No idea what I’ll wear when it’s below 30 out.
I think the next few days are going to be tough to get out there and run. Up north, you’ve probably got crummy weather, family coming over, or your visiting, and then there’s all the food, football, and a million other reasons to just sit on the couch.
DON’T fall into the TRAP!!!
Get out and do something, even if it’s not a full on run. Walk, jog, snog, run, play, do something to stay active. I suspect it will help take the edge off of your appetite and keep us from eating too much (or as much as we could) during the holidays.
I can’t run tomorrow! I’ve got to cook! I do plan on going out shortly to pick up some last minute ingredients and hair stuff. I think I may just walk my usual running route and stop at the store on the way back.
Tomorrow is just going to be a lot of driving and eating for me, but luckily my mom lives right next to a high school that has an open track. So hopefully on Friday and the weekend I can run on it. I am really looking forward to tomorrow though. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
What shoes did you get? I am also a neutral runner and am just curious. As for the $$, you do have the option of taking the information you gleaned and buying future models of the same shoe online or from a cheaper source. I rarely do this because I really want to support my local running store (I only have bought online when my style has been discontinued and I can snag an older model online), but I know others who do.
I am running a Turkey Chase tomorrow morning. What better way to say, “Well, yes, I ***would ***like some stuffing, thanks”?
I was planning on doing my 1.9 tomorrow, but right now it looks like it’ll be another 1.4. I’m so damned tired today–I won’t make the decision until tomorrow(all hangs on when I get up).
