C25k--come run with us

Which pushup program are you following? The week 3 day 3 at http://hundredpushups.com/index.html is 22-30-20-20-28

For week 4 of the pushups I’ve dropped back to column 2. I’ve just finished day 2 (20-25-20-20-28) with the last few pushups being a real struggle.

Oh, and I am getting trimmer if not lighter: today my wife made some nice comments about my improved butt. Still got a bit of belly to go, though.

It’s the same. The last set is “As many as you can do, minimum of 28”. I did 35. I try and exceed it in these weeks where it’s still relatively easy. Week 4 was the one that did me in on my first try, so not sure if I’ll stay in column III or move back to column II. Will see how I feel on Monday I guess.

Oh, just so you know, try not to use your butt too much when you’re doing pushups. At least your wife is enjoying it.

I’m back. First run in about three weeks. I did week 4, nearly died, perhaps week three would have been a smarter decision. I sincerely hope I will be able to keep it up.

Well, I’ve sucked this week. I haven’t gone running since Sunday. Part of it, which I think is a valid reason, is I don’t want to run on days that I have to drive many, many hours. Running makes me sleepy. I have no excuse for yesterday though. I was just hanging out at my sister’s apartment. My running shoes and clothes were in my car. It was still light out and was even a nice temperature. I stayed in with the baby. Actually, come to think of it, the baby isn’t a bad excuse. She’s a sweet little three and a half month old who lives seven hours away from me. Hanging out with her beats running any time.

Anywho, I’ve done w4d1. On Monday, I’m starting week four over. I’ve been doing really well with this whole running thing, no reason to quit all together just because I haven’t done it in a few days.

Well it became super obvious I was the only one interested in running the race. And I didn’t want to be that MIL. So I said hey lets just skip it and my very sweet DIL actually cheered.

Le sigh. I like that race too, it’s a fun one and this was my last chance since my son and his wife are moving to Virginia next month. Oh well.

Well, you could always do the Santa Speedo Run. :stuck_out_tongue:

Um only if you are there first!

Okay, just get back out there on Monday. Don’t make me get cross with you!

Wow…speaking of sucktastic runs…I’m back from the Bataan Death March.

Were you wearing a Speedo?

It’s obvious that my fashion sense has already been ruined by this running thing (after a certain point you start to think there’s such a thing as super-cute running clothes) because my thought wasn’t “ugh, people in Speedos!” but “holy crap, in BOSTON? Doesn’t it get cold as hell in Boston?”

You, my friend, are a prime candidate for the running skirt. I <heart> my running skirt (I have a different one than I linked to; seems to be sold out on that site).

Yes! And I thought the guy with scarf–what’s he gonna do with it, once he warms up?

I ran 2.3 today and it sucked. I started off good–8:1, but it quickly deteriorated to 5:1s and one 4:1. I did sprint the last .1 mile (just to learn me).

I feel ok now. Need to shower and then get moving on my day.

Ok, running on the boardwalk in San Diego is awesome. Beautiful morning, and there were a lot of surfers out. I hardly even noticed my ankle, but we’ll see how it feels tomorrow morning.

Okay, that makes sense. I try to exceed the minimum as well, so my final 28 was actually 29 (although the final one was not a very high quality pushup).

Yes, I wasn’t able to get through week 4 day 1. After several attempts I dropped back to column 2, just so I could make some progress. Although I think tomorrow’s day 3 is going to do me in (23-28-23-23-33). Looking ahead at the end-of-week-4-exhaustion-test, I think I’ll be in column 1 when I eventually reach week 5

Well, THAT sucked. I tried to do two miles and failed utterly. I gave up entirely at 1.7 miles or so, but I hadn’t been what you’d really call running for a while. And then it was about a mile of ass-dragging walk home, which was long and discouraging.

On the other hand, the cat under the red car who I always say hey to as I walk by on my five minutes walk said hey to me this time, and came out and begged for petting, and then I had to start running two blocks early because it kept following me and I didn’t want to lead it away to busier streets. Previously it’s just given me dirty looks.

I’m lucky in that I’ve generally been able to design our runs through the neighborhood in a course that never puts me any more than a 5-10 walk away from the house.

Here’s a route map, which is kind of close but not exact since Google would let me show routes that aren’t actual streets and has some streets as one way that aren’t, or we run against vehicle traffic. Interesting to see that we’re almost covering a 5K already, in about 31 minutes, including the walks. Will be interesting to see how that translates once the runs get longer.

The other thing I probably have over most of the rest of you is that there is nothing but flat anywhere near my home, so we never get tested by hills. Or much by weather, for that matter (this will change when summer returns in a few months).

You guys must really run a good pace, ShibbOleth!

I have, fortunately, found a half-marathon better timed for me - the Pittsburgh Marathon, on May 3, has a half. It hasn’t been run at all in five years, and this is the first year they’ve had a half, so it may well be run by monkeys, I dunno. However, it gives me an extra month of training, and I can go see my nonagenarian grandmother and my mom’s family as a bonus. (Otherwise obviously it wouldn’t make sense to go to Pennsylvania to run thirteen miles.)

Anyway, if anybody’s interested, I’m signed up and you’re welcome to run with me. By which I mean a long ways in front of me, probably. The course is supposed to be pretty flat and fast. I’ve got 153 days to go from unable-to-add-distance-past-a-mile-and-a-half to 13.1.

Well, my brother lives near the airport in Moon Township, so I’d have a place to stay. But I still don’t see myself running 13 miles. And everything is hilly compared to here, so there’s that to take into consideration. I guess I’m saying we’ll see how it goes just getting to the “run for 3.1 miles” part before I commit to something slightly more aggressive.

Well, they give you three hours to do it in. You could probably walk 13 miles in three hours if you set your mind to it. Plus you get a medal. And a t-shirt. Also, my mom would yell for you if you ask nice.
