Cable for PS3 playstation

Hello all,

I’m buying a small HD TV for my nephew to use with his PS3. Will a standard HDMI cable be all that I need to make the connection to the new TV? Don’t want anything holding us up on c’mas morning!

Thank you,

John

p.s. I know nothing about the PS3

As long as the TV has an HDMI input, yes, that is all that’s needed.

However, if he already owns a PS3, it came with an HDMI cable, so he might have it lying around. But if not, HDMI cables can be had for cheap online, don’t pay upwards of $100 in a store. Monoprice.com can get you one for less than $10, even Amazon has them for under $15.

If you’re not sure, post the TV model number. Someone here will find out.

If the TV has an HDMI input, the PS3 uses a standard HDMI output and cable, just like a hi-def cable box, etc.

Be prepared: There is a (decent) chance the TV won’t recognize the HDMI signal from the PS3 and you will get a blank screen. There is a procedure where you hold down the front power button on the PS3 until the TV and PS3 synch up. It’ll flicker, and the screen will ask you to accept the hi-def 1080 resolution. Have the controller ready to answer “yes”.

My PS3 did not come with an HDMI cable.

Don’t spend much money on a HDMI cable. The cheapest finest $2 cable works just as well as the $80 cable that electronics salesmen will try to push on you.

Since they just cost a few bucks, why not go ahead and buy an extra cable? If it turns out to be unnecessary, you haven’t wasted much money.

Huh…maybe it’s only the newer ones? I got the “Slim” model back in May and it came with one…I think? Maybe I bought one in anticipation and just forgot…:stuck_out_tongue:

They didn’t start packing an HDMI cable in the box until a few years ago.

I bought a new PS3 last month to replace my old one that died; it did not come with an HDMI cable.

Thanks for all the info, folks! Many good suggestions and information! I’ve shopped at monoprice before, so i’ll add a new (maybe 10 foot) HDMI cable to my next order.

Thanks again,

John
