Cafe Society Confessions: What's yours?

You are exactly describing how I felt about “Pulp Fiction”. I have refused to see anything by Quentin Tarantino ever since.

Another one. Grant Hart was NOT the genius behind Husker Du. Bob Mould was.

I haven’t either but one of these days I will.
I watched Jaws, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and Trainspotting for the first time recently. All three were on my “I’ve seen parts, but never the whole movie” list. I admit that I should feel much shame for this.

I know, I know (though arguably We Shall Overcome was the more important song for the civil rights movement), and I don’t question the cultural importance of the song. Of course it was also a crucial song for Dylan’s career, indeed his breakthrough, but it’s trite and banal nonetheless. But maybe I’ve only heard it too many times sung and played (badly) by romantic German teenage girls around campfires in the seventies…

I like Mostly Harmless. It’s So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish that is the weak link in the “trilogy”.

I ate spaghetti with ketchup as a kid, and would do so again (although I won’t go out of my way to prepare it).

Do most people believe that ? Just check their post Hüsker Dü output, and there can be no doubt about that (though Grant Hart’s no slouch either, his Hüsker Dü songs were on par with Mould’s).

But maybe it’s like the Lou Reed/John Cale thing. I’ve read some time ago that all the cool kids prefer John Cale to Lou Reed. Sorry, but no, John Cale’s ok, but I really never could get into his solo work, while Lou’s simply one of the towering figures of rock, and the fact that he had some mainstream hits doesn’t change that fact.

Fortunate man. Keep up the good work. And read the book (suspect you already have).

I love the song “Daydream Believer”. I also love “Sugar Sugar”. There. I said it.

I quite enjoyed Snowpiercer. I’ve even seen it twice!
ETA: oh, and I think Meryl Streep is highly overrated.

Do not be ashamed. Top 40 rocks!

Back when I was a freshman in high school I wore this t-shirt to school. I thought I was a bad ass.

I’ve finally gotten bored with superhero comic books and don’t read 'em any more.

Four Sticks* is probably my favorite Zep tune. I think it’s great.

God help me. I have to try this.

I eat peanuts with the shells on.

How?

I think the Monkees are great. “Last Train to Clarksville” is wistful and evocative (I don’t buy the idea that it’s an antiwar song, but it’s a good about leaving a loved one for whatever reason and trying to have a few last coffee flavored kisses before you never see them again). And “Pleasant Valley Sunday” is a well crafted screed against vacuous materialism. And “I’m a Believer” is just fun. Yeah, yeah, they were a TV creation, not real musicians, whatever. I don’t care. However the records came into being isn’t my concern. They could have sprouted from holes in the ground for all I care. They’re good songs!

I don’t care what it’s about or how relevant it may be to current events - “The Handmaid’s Tale” was, and is, a terrible book.

Just pop the whole thing in my mouth.Shells and all. That’s why they’re salted, right?

This is a good one, and gave me a confession for the thread:

I’m in my mid-40s and I have zero interest in movies from before 2000 unless I already saw them and loved them. (Fight Club, Reservoir Dogs, etc…) And I’m starting to lose interest in the 2000-2009 movies as well. Something about watching movies that aren’t from the current decade just turns me off. (Rolling current, so in 5 years I’ll prefer the 2020 and later movies.)
