I think a sticky thread with a post like this would be appropriate for Cafe Society:
Title: Please be considerate with spoilers
Body:
If you wish to discuss or ask a question about a story, and you are unable to do so without spoiling (revealing) a vital piece of information, please consider using a spoiler warning. Although there is no official board policy on this matter, it is considered courteous to do so.
When starting a new thread, the easiest way to warn for spoilers is simply putting the word “spoilers” in the title of your thread, like so:
Question about Metroid (warning: Spoilers!)
We have also implemented a spoiler tag, which allows you to put spoilers within boxes that must be manually highlighted to be read. To use it, enclose the spoiler text between a tag, and a tag. Here is an example of how to do this:
SHES A SHE??? I’m halfway thorugh Metroid one and I innocently click this thead and BANG! Spoiled… How could you?
.
.
.
Good idea however. But some newbies wouldn’t understand what a Spoiler is. A better title would be something like “Please do not spoil movies, TV shows etc without warning”
I like Wearia’s title better. And if you have a better idea for an example spoiler, please use it. Maybe “story” would be a good shorthand for “movie, TV show, etc.” I also wanted to include a link to the discussion of how old a story has to be before spoiler warnings are not worth the effort (even though I personally think that age is not what should decide it). But, as you can imagine, a search on “spoiler” in Cafe Society was less than enlightening.
I’ll let Eutychus handle it this afternoon when he gets back from work, as I know how much he enjoys seeing his name at the head of the forum. {insert smiley here}
