Cafe Society stickies temporarily disturbed

Nice unboxed spoiler there, SeniorBeef.
BTW, from what I gathered from the intro posts the stickies are only temporary until everyone gets the hang of it. When the “Special Little Snowflake” book series gets made into a cable show, and there are enough viewers/readers/posters that it’s a hassle to keep spoilers from the books spilling over into the series, perhaps the same format will be followed. Since it’ll be somewhat established by then, no need for a sticky, even though it would be Very Special.

So it’s there for a while 'till everyone gets up to speed, right? We’re going to get our BOO! forum back soon too, right?

Ha, I didn’t even think about it being a spoiler, since it was an internet meme almost on the level of “luke, I am your father”

Anyway, I’d support dual-thread approaches to adaptations in general, but generally they aren’t necesarily - there’s just not that much discussion of the original source material. Someone upthread mentioned Dexter, and the Dexter books are almost irrelevant to the series, and apparently not something anyone wants to discuss, because the issue rarely gets brought up. The Walking Dead is closer - and I’d rather have comics discussion put elsewhere - but again, only a tiny fraction of the discussion that GoT generates.

:smack: He did it again!

Why do I get the feeling this is turning into the Monster at the End of the Thread?
Actually, LIKYF is a bit more known and spread around than SKD. There are a lot of people who haven’t read/seen the HP books that eventually get to them due to the buzz and whatnot. Not that you’re going to hell, but it’s an interesting example of two different spoiler outlooks–hell, I’d still spoiler RB in CK rather than chance it.

I have to go now, there’s an acronym out there that I haven’t met.

Feel free to edit my posts if the SKD thing is considered a spoiler, sorry. I thought it was such a pop culture thing that everyone knew it, which is why I chose it as an example of the sort of spoiler I’m hoping to avoid.

I love this. At TWOP some moderators don’t watch the shows they’re moderating, so they have no clue what constitutes a spoiler. The results are catastrophic (on the message board level of catastrophic).

quixotic78, spoiler boxes aren’t inadequate, it’s just that the thread would be filled with boxes, and nobody wants to read a thread full of boxes. Plus, if you’re subscribed via e-mail, there are no boxes – it’s all right there.

It is. I even have a “movie spoiler” t-shirt that has it on the front, along with a bunch of other stuff. And i’ve never even seen the Harry Potter films or read the books.

Wow. Just, wow. Do you wear it in public? That would be pretty shitty.

Yep.

The Harry Potter spoiler is the most recent one on the shirt. Quite a few are from much older movies like the original Star Wars series, Psycho, The Crying Game, The Sixth Sense, etc.

Almost all the spoilers are ones that have made it into the general cultural consciousness, even among people who haven’t seen the movies in question. There are 5 movies on the shirt that i still haven’t seen, but i knew all the spoilers already.

Does anyone really not know that Soylent Green is made of people, or that the Planet of the Apes was earth all along?

I think it’s a little silly both that this show gets such special treatment (3 threads? all stickied?)and thinking people will stick to the spoilers rules any better. STM, him keeping an eye on the threads would have been good enough.

eta: mhendo, I once got chastised by a poster for mentioning:

The trailer for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly showed the Mexican standoff at the end.

Yeah, don’t hold your breath on that one. There’s still people that are adverse to figuring out when and how you should use spoiler boxes on this board.

Thankfully, every single poster on this board slavishly reads stickies and always follows the rules contained within.

We need to sticky you, pronto.

Seriously concur. I mean, I used to worry that the 24 Club threads went overboard.

Knead
Jesus, did I start all of this?

Heh. Yeah - I don’t know about other posters, but stickies are pretty counterproductive to getting my attention. I immediately scroll past them when my screen loads.

I’m pretty sure you did. Were there any other shows that had previously gotten a thread for every new episode?

Many shows get a thread for each new episode. Few get several threads for each new episode.

This thread itself is starting to get unwieldy. I think we need one thread to discuss the CS stickies, one to discuss spoilers, one for people to ask questions about spoilers in general, one for people to ask questions about stickies in general, one for people to make predictions about whethre people will follow directions (and to be clear that they are just predictions, not spoilers!), and one to make useless jokes.

But the question, rephrased, was "Did shows get threads for every episode before 24? I don’t think so, but I can’t be arsed to research.

I’m well aware of that. The point being discussed is that Knead is known for having hosted the weekly threads for the television show “24”, starting back in 2001. At that point, it was extremely uncommon for shows to have threads for each episode. In fact, I believe there was quite a bit of discussion regarding the need to do so. Which is why he posited that this may have been all his fault.

In other words, it’s a joke, lorene.

OK, sorry.

Eta 'cause lorene isn’t the only one who got wooshed. Heh.

Yes, but I don’t think any did before we started doing it for 24.
