This here ornament is quite the hit. People are clamoring for 'em! Our poor receptionist is being bombarded. Orders are coming in over teh internets even! We put 'em in to of those cutesy gifty shop type places in town every year. They had already presold every one we were gonna place in both shops… I mean, even before they were supposed to get 'em (today)! Who knew a cheesy, yet kinda jake, neon sign would be such a hit. Makes me happy I have my little hidey place back here in our back building even if I am beset by mopheads, boxes, rubber thingys etc.
OOH! Yesterday at the great unveiling, the man who was the owner of the Arctic Bear and all his family were here. Also, a lady who was employed there for forty three years was here. I don’t think she really had any idea what was goin’ on, but she was here. The place was also crawlin’ with local politicians but I don’t think any of 'em got close enough that I got anything on me.
co-worker’s birthday today - the bakery spelled her name wrong and gave us a chocolate cake with chocolate filling and chocolate frosting (usually we get a yellow cake with chocolate filling and either chocolate or vanilla frosting) I looked at it and said Oy! that would give me a sugar high, a sugar headache, and put me to sleep by 2pm. So I didn;t have any. Besides, I’m one of those rare individuals who believe there IS such a thing a too much chocolate. Chocolate, as with most things, in moderation is best.
I’m with rosie, there is such a thing as too much chocolate, especially chocolate cake.
When are gauchos going away? And empire waistlines? And ::shudder:: gauchos with empire waistlines? They look like pants that were too big, so they got hiked up to the armpits. Yesterday, I saw a woman in a suit, wearing her skirt under her armpits. She looked odd, to say the least.
Drae, no stickers at all, not even little American flags? What kind of state is New Jersey, anyway?
Well, anyrose is first off the island, for sure now…actually, I don’t like choc cake at all. I prefer my chocolate thick, warm and fudgy. I don’t like cake.
I voted. I got a sticker! I am so proud. I did it the old fashioned way-which was a new fangled way. No more punch cards, I had to draw a line! It was hard. We didn’t have Diebold, we had one Sequoia machine (probably a subsidary of Diebold for all I know) and there was a line for it…
I am being slightly bugged by all the phone calls from candidates now that I am done with the democractic process. So, I tell all the pre-recorded messages that I already voted and hang up. It makes me feel better.
I feel no ambition to do any work of any kind, so I won’t. I know I will pay for this later but I dont’ care…drizzling outside.
Oh, grrrrr. School nurse just called. #2 son is in her office, c/o sore throat. He has a low grade temp. I would be more June Cleaver about this if wasn’t worried about him missing school…off to collect an 8 year old.
I voted at lunch too! And I did get a sticker. A round red one that says “I voted!” Woo!
Yes, that is the highlight of my day, why do you ask?
Mom’s now asking about Thanksgiving. Originally when they moved, she said they’d probably just stay there. Things were too crazy, it’s right before the wedding, and she hates traveling. But now she wants to know if they should consider coming out (to KeithT’s family’s, not to my place!). Which is fine, but it’s getting awfully hard to find flights at non-outrageous prices for T-day! Couldn’t she have thought of this earlier?? ::sigh::
Maybe we can ban gauchos. That would be good, too.
I’ve cleaned the bathroom and had a nap. I feel better, but my tonsils/throat/head hurt and are stuffy. In a couple of minutes I’ll start cleaning the kitchen. We still have real company (Defined as not QD, Driving Husband, Lazy Husband, Attacks Husband, my parents, or Other Quasi-Daughter) coming over tomorrow, and I want to look like an efficient housewife.
Most chocolate cake is a waste of chocolate. And putting chocolate in the middle of it and topping it with chocolate frosting makes me just want to be sick. But GOOD chocolate cake, like the molten chocolate babycakes that KeithT and I made last New Year’s, is gooooooooood. I think it’s a matter of starting with good chocolate. If you add yucky chocolate to a cake, you get yucky chocolate cake. If you start with good quality chocolate and then don’t add too much flour or anything to it, you end up with good cake. It seems simple but an awful lot of people make really awful chocolate cake and think that adding chocolate frosting so that people get a sugar high and bounce off the walls will fix things.
Yes, I take my chocolate seriously. Doesn’t everyone?
We had real company last night. I hid most of the junk that usually sits in the kitchen and then distracted them with the cats. I don’t think they noticed that I didn’t dust.
I prefer absentee voting. The machines are much easier to use. I was told, however, that they’re using the newfangled machines for regular voting now, but we absentee voted anyway.
As soon as **FCD ** gets home, we’ll drive around the corner and vote. Yes, drive - it’s a LONG corner! And it’s cold and rainy, so hush. We leave too early in the morning to vote before work. I’ll let you know later if we get stickers.
One thing I’ve noticed about all the mailings we’ve been getting - none of them have a party affiliation on them. But most of them are “independent thinkers” - yeah, right.
I wonder if I can persuade my sweetie to go out for bad Chinese buffet after we vote? He’s pretty tired, so he may just want to come home and crash. We shall see.
For whoever asked (I forgot): until I get my next “permanent” cubicle, I’m sitting in the Ops Center, which is where we do exercises and stuff. Not gym exercises, the other kind.
Too much chocolate?? rosie, you’re dangerously close to getting put on The List. <glare and glower sternly>
Well, I tried to vote this morning, but the polling place said I wasn’t on The List. I could do a provisional ballot, but they suggested I go to the last place I was registered at and vote there. So, I went there and they haven’t heard of me either. I think I’m disenfranchised. I guess I’ll go back to my original place and do a provisional after work, but I’m not sure if they even count for anything. Stupid government. Or possibly, stupid me for forgetting to fill out some piece of paper last time I moved. Could go either way, really.
You say more for me, but there is no chocolate in my house. So where is this “more for me”???
We’ve exercised our civic duty and I don’t think it took a whole 20 minutes from leaving the house to parking, walking in, signing in, touching the touch screen, and getting our stickers. I expect it’ll be more crowded starting in about 30 minutes. The polls are open till 8 here, so there’s still plenty of time.
And no, **FCD ** didn’t feel like going out to eat, so I made a couple of Egyptian eyes (egg in a basket, toad in a hole - whatever else you call it) and I’ve fed the critters. But no chocolate. Bummer. <insert deep sad sigh here>
I actually voted yesterday–by absentee ballot. I waited until the last minute to apply to, because I didn’t know that anyone can now vote absentee (no reason is necessary). I had to fax the application in, then they sent the ballot out. I was afraid it wouldn’t come in time, but it was in the mail on Saturday. So I filled it out yesterday, then when I tried to put the ballot into the envelope provided (no postage on it, btw! LOL it ended up costing me 70 cents to vote!), it didn’t fit! ACK! It was a bit too big for the envelope; I ended up getting the ballot in, but it split the ends of the envelope, so I had to use tape to make sure they were closed. Now I’m afraid my vote isn’t going to count, that they’ll think it’s been “tampered” with! I hope not, because I’ve heard that a lot of people had the same problem.
I’m hoping that my candidates all win … and that no-one loses by a margin of one vote!!!
Also, no “I’ve voted!” sticker this year … ah well, I didn’t have to wait in line.
