Cake vs. Pie comedy routine?

I think the point was using ingredients which come in a formulation made with sweeteners.

Err, we have different tastes. I can’t stand cool whip. It tastes like soap. Well, it also tastes of fat and sugar, but there’s a thread of soap running through it.

And i find artificial sweeteners disconcerting. They are too sweet, so the sweetness lingers is a weird aftertaste way.

On the other hand, i rather like unsweetened whipped cream. You can add a touch of vanilla in just cream is too bland. It’s rich and unctuous and doesn’t really need the sugar.

well, the icing that goes on cakes (I’m from the UK, “frosting” is not a term I’m prepared to use) is just a sugar glaze.
When I bake a dessert pie, e.g. apple. The last thing I do before popping it in the oven is to egg or milk wash the top and sprinkle sugar over it in order to create a crunchy, sweet sugar glaze. Not substantially different in purpose or composition from an iced cake.
