Hey there fellow Calgarians - I need to pick your brains a little bit. I’m a member of a charitable group that holds weekly self-help support meetings for sufferers of anxiety disorders. We have pretty much run out of money*, so we’re looking for a new place to meet that is pretty cheap (if not free). We don’t need much - a private space for about 20 people to sit, and a bathroom is about it.
Does anyone know of anyone with such a room - a conference room or a group room in a church, or something like that? Any ideas would be appreciated.
*Don’t even get me started on how mental health departments still classify anxiety disorders as a mental disorder, yet refuse to help a group like ours at all.
Perhaps you could try the university or MRC and see if they’ll let you use an unoccupied class room after hours. I have no idea who you’d ask but when I was a student it was pretty easy to find an open and empty class room late in the day to use for studying.
I’m not sure how it works in Canada, but in the US the public libraries will frequently have meeting rooms for nonprofit organizations to use free of charge. Also, it may depend on if the meeting is open to the public or not.
