California bans Ford Diesel PowerStroke?

I’m reading another message board and someone posted a claim that California has banned the Ford 7.3 litre PowerStroke Diesel. Someone else claims that no diesel cars have been sold in California for years.

First, I remember looking into a diesel car when I was in California (a VW Jetta) and found they were not available there, though they were available in other states. I asked, and was told that new diesel cars were not allowed to be sold in California. Only Scout1222 bought a diesel car some time after that, so I assume that the ban was withdrawn a few years ago. So: When were sales of new diesel cars stopped in California, and when did they resume?

Second, I googled to see if I could find a news story about California banning the Ford trucks. Didn’t find anything. So I’m guessing the poster was mistaken. If this is indeed a hoax, where did it start?

This doesn’t make a lot of sense. First off the current Power Stroke a 6.4l 4 valves/cylinder twin turbo unit which was brand new for MY 2007. The 7.3L (or was it 7.4L?) was one or two engine generations ago.
Secondly, I have seen nothing in the news about PS being banned.
Lastly, I just went to Ford. com and plugged in my home zip, and the Power Stroke is shown as an available option for an F250.
I call bullshit.

Thought so. Thanks, Rick.

California does tend to have tighter restrictions on diesels in general, tho. Perhaps number of model sold limits. I test drove a TDI Golf and Beetle in 01, and they were rare then. I have a notion that things haven’t changed much.
