Now, now. Let’s be accurate. He didn’t “drill through his own head”; he accidentally impaled himself on a drill. 
I think that maybe they should train them to throw it further away!

The folks at snopes just sent me an e-mail about this. They have the whole story down as “yellow”. David says

I saw the alleged Xray, and what’s got me going Hmmm…:dubious: is the absence of evidence of broken bone. I’d expect to see at least some cracks or chunks of bone around the entrance and exit wounds of such a traumatic injury.
What really grabs me is the caption said the bit “nudged” his brain. With all those sharp edges, I’d expect the verb to be “chewed through” or “scooped out like rice pudding.” I could see how something smooth and round on the end could “nudge” the brain, but not an auger bit.
Not saying carpenters in Truckee are incabable of causing great harm to themselves, but it looks like someone took an Xray of a big drill bit and photoshopped it to a head Xray.
The thing that gets me is the bit is supposed to have gone through the eye but the xray makes it look like it entered trough the cheek.
Well, well, Snopes has given it the green light. I guess it must be true after all.
