Call of Duty: Black Ops

You probably already know this, but TI is disabled in FFA.

I don’t use UAV/motion sensor because I’m bad at paying attention to the map. It probably shows in some of my videos. I pretty much ignore it about 80% of the time (especially if I’m moving about a lot/quickly) The other 20% of the time I’ve made use of it passively (I’ve noticed activity on it and responded accordingly) rather than actively relying on it.

I know that my claymore is often rendered useless against people who use hacker, but I use it anyway for the chance of getting the people that don’t. It also gives me a better chance of survinging when I have to become vulnerable (such as driving an rc-car or doing something else that takes my view away from my person) by placing it near to where my body is. Also you might be surprised how often people who are using hacker get killed by one of my claymores. If their attention is drawn away from the red claymore silhouette by, say, being fired at, they will often completely fail to notice it.

Also, if not using my claymore to protect my vulnerability while doing something out-of-body I will often leave it there and go off somewhere else (move about the map as normal), so a hacker who sees and therefore assumes I’m somewhere near it, will often be mistaken. On the occasions where I am near it, they will probably have to shoot it to deal with it (I place it in such a way that they are unlikely to be able to get behind it to hack it)… which in turn alerts me to their presence.

I’ll try the Famas.
edit: P.s. do you have any videos of your gameplay? I’d be interested to watch.

I’ll jump in on this thread with the loadout discussion, though I certainly have lots of other points to talk about regarding this game.

I’ve got six classes, four of which I use pretty commonly.

[ol][]Speedy[ul]Lightweight pro, warlord pro, marathon pro []AK74u with silencer and grip[]Akimbo pythons or ballistic knife, depending on my mood[]Semtex, concussion, claymore[]This guy is obviously for running & gunning, and especially flanking. This emulates my favorite class from MW2, but since the sound sucks in this game, I don’t need ninja. The claymore just gets thrown down as I run by a doorway. I don’t need ghost because I move too fast for my dot to be useful to anybody.[/ul][]Assault[ul][]Hardline pro, sleight of hand pro, marathon pro []Commando with red dot sight - for some reason the iron sights don’t work well for me. And it is fun to have my funny-colored sight in their killcams. []RPG - don’t use often, but it is nice with sleight of hand pro []Semtex, concussion, claymore[]I use this guy a lot because assault rifles are so much more powerful in this game. The AK47u from my ‘speedy’ class can take as many as five shots to kill somebody, which is just ridiculous. The commando has much better range, and never takes more than three. I still run-and-gun with this class, but since it lacks the speed of ‘speedy,’ I have to be a little more cautious, and be more aware of spy planes. I also switch to this class to call in care packages, since hardline pro almost guarantees a decent score. That perk is also one of the two reasons I use care packages (which I never did in MW2).[/ul][]Anti-everything[ul][]Ghost pro, sleight of hand pro, hacker pro []G11 no attachment[]Strella-3[]Semtex, concussion, scrambler[]This is mostly an anti-air class, but it’s also incredibly fun to see a claymore through a wall, put down the scrambler to disable it, walk in and hack it, walk out and pick up my scrambler again. Or alternately, if I can tell from a claymore placement that it’s guarding a camper, I’ll scramble the claymore and then go get the unsuspecting camper. Most people don’t seem to realize that when they get scrambled, their nearby claymores quit working. I also use this class to take advantage of the G11, which is basically a sniper rifle without recoil that allows quick-scoping. The only weakness of this class is that it’s bad in close quarters, so I end up doing a lot of sneaking around with it.[/ul][]Sniper[ul][]Ghost pro, scout pro, hacker pro[]PSG1 variable zoom []Akimbo pythons[]Semtex, decoy, claymore As many have observed, sniping is a lot trickier in this game. It was my favorite class in MW2, but here, it’s pretty hit-and-miss. (yuk yuk) I was a pretty religious devotee to the WA2000 from MW2, but for this game, something with a little more power is better.[/ul][/ol]My killstreaks are always spy plane, care package, blackbird.

Too late for another edit:

I’m also tempted to try the G11, having recently used it in the single player game (I know you can’t really compare that to MP, but I liked it)
I used the care package for a while, but I found that it would cause me to get sidetracked from the game itself while I looked for a good place to call it in. I started using rolling thunder after it got me ridonkulous amounts of kills in combat training. Alas, I have been less successful with it in MP real.

Agreed. That’s why I nearly always wait to die/respawn before calling it in.

Me included. I do now

(The scrambler is ironically a good alerter to the presence of the person using it, but sometimes my claymore is far enough away that it will get scrambled without me knowing there’s a scrambler nearby, and a person will get into my ‘safe’ zone without me realizing or knowing quite how)

The G11 is an amazing weapon. If you’ve got a crappy connection going, it can be problematic, but if everything is solid, it’s a death stick. Leave the iron sights on it.

I found that there was a bit of a learning curve on the G11, but once I got used to it, it was a killing machine. Mostly it was hard to get used to the Low-Power Scope because it seems to zoom in so much and the crosshairs are HUGE so they block some of your vision. Once I was over that hurdle, it became my premium weapon. On Hardcore, it takes a guy down with one burst, but it takes two on regular games. The good thing is that it fires so quickly that you can usually get it done.

I just had a couple of TDM games on Array with the G11. I am quite impressed. The zero recoil allowed me to point just above a barrel that the enemy kept peeping up from. I think I was even killing through the barrel at one point.

On a side note, I was inside the big building calling in my rolling thunder. I was there for a while because I couldn’t decide where to put it. Meanwhile three enemy players had turned up and were in the room next to mine. They hadn’t noticed my presence. I promptly knifed two of them and killed the third with the G11 (not in that order. knife, G11, knife).

I had a pretty good kd too. In the game I just left I got to I think 15 and 0 at which point I got a bit over-exited and started dying. Ended up 21 and 6.

I am not going to switch over to this weapon completely just yet. Going to try it in small goes first.

ETA: I stuck with the iron sights as suggested (I find I generally don’t need any special sights on weapons in this game anyway. I also have a 24 inch monitor and play at 1680x1050 so I can squint and see enemies in the distance  )

That and the iron sights are pretty damned good across the board in this game. Some struggle with the AK 74 and 47 and some of the submachine guns, but as a whole, the irons are definitely adequate.

The G11 has a huge clip size, which is nice, too. You don’t have to reload after 5 or 6 kills.

In core modes too, it will take guys down with one burst at short- or medium ranges. If you’re trying to use the same tactics in hardcore, I’d recommend the M14 instead of the G11. Effectively more ammo, less recoil, and it can take a silencer.

Does anybody else find that a bunch of the perks go unused? Especially the tier three perks. I use four out of five of the tier one perks (don’t use flak jacket), and I use all of the tier two perks, but I only use two of the tier three perks (don’t use ninja, second chance, or tactical mask). I don’t use second chance because it’s for wieners. I don’t use ninja because the sound in this game sucks, so nobody can hear me coming anyway, and I don’t use tactical mask because barely anybody uses gas. I’ve got ‘pro’ on every perk I use, but don’t have a single percentage of any of the other challenges completed.

What gametypes do you play?

Good point. I play about 80% team deathmatch and 20% domination. I suppose some of those perks might be more useful on, say, demolition or headquarters.

That’s exactly right. A lot of those perks aren’t as useful in Deathmatch. Flak Jacket Pro can have you on a domination point, where, when it starts raining grenades, you can throw them back because the fuses reset. Tactical Mask Pro lessens your weakness to even flashbangs and concussion grenades in addition to Nova gas (which is very underrated, by the way). Scout pro lets you hold your breath longer, but also lets you change weapons much faster, so if there’s a helicopter up and you’ve been stuck inside and finally get outside and can already hear Ride Of the Valkyries playing when they’re already up to 10 kills or so in their Huey, you can bring your Strela up very quickly (although it’s weird to see the animations move so fast to change weapons, and then go to normal for reloading the weapon).

Now, I agree. There are a lot of perks that are very situational or go unused, however, they all have their niche, especially for savvy players that have their game tailored to maximizing the strength of those perks. Lightweight Pro, Sleight of Hand Pro, and Marathon Pro is an interesting one, especially if you pair it with a silenced submachinegun. Swap out Lightweight Pro for Ghost Pro, if you must.

I find that Ghost Pro is a must a lot of the time. I love knowing that I won’t show up on a spy plane and won’t be targeted by vehicles.

In Modern Warfare 2, it’s all I ran for my first perk. That, a Barrett with a thermal scope and smoke grenades. Everyone else took Stopping Power.

I used to only run Ghost Pro, and still do for most of my setups. However, you don’t get many bullets with the sniper rifles, and Scavenger ends up becoming a necessity if you string any killstreak of game-changing consequence.

According to what I think is the definition of a ‘collateral’ - Kill two or more people with one bullet - I think I got one tonight with the silenced Commando. I was obviously firing more than one bullet, but the deaths happened at the same time, while the players were mostly lined up. If by some sub-clause of the definition this isn’t a collateral I’ll rename the video.

Yeah, I’m not sure. I know you can go through 4 heads with a bullet, but that’s with a sniper rifle. I would say that it’s not going to get the Collateral bonus/medal whatever, with what you just showed.

I was thinking more a long the lines of: Is it a collateral in the general sense. Not should the game have awarded me a collateral medal. (I didn’t think there was such a thing, but I never use a sniper class/rifle so I wouldn’t really know)

In other words - do you simply define a collateral as two or more kills with one bullet, or does it have a more strict definition such as - two or more kills with one pull of the trigger and one bullet? Or two or more kills with a sniper rifle?

In MW2, there were two similar challenges. One was called “Collateral Damage” and it required two kills with a single sniper bullet. The kills could be through any body part, but they had to be by a sniper rifle, and they had to be a single shot. The other challenge was called “All Pro” and required two headshot kills with a single bullet. This could be from any gun, though it’s probably easiest with a sniper rifle.

There is no similar metal/challenge in Blops.

So you’re free to make up your own definition. Personally, I’m going to award myself the “collateral challenge” every time one of my stupid teammates captures the third flag in domination, thus screwing up our spawn trap and making us lose the match.

I think it’s one bullet, two (or more) kills.
