One of my best games yet…
So anyone have any tips on better ways to take down helicopters? I’m trying to get Ghost Pro, which makes me invisible to them like Cold Blooded did in MW2. However, I have to take down 30 helicopters with “non-Kill Streak launchers.” I mainly use the second available heat-seeking launcher but I inevitably get killed almost as soon as I point it at the helicopter. I don’t even bother with a chopper gunner or hind, they annihilate me as soon as I spawn. I’ve taken down 5 of the 30, but it’s slow going. Any other ideas?
Find some cover, like a building or something, and try to peek out when the chopper is pointed at something on the other side of it. Basically, try and get it so the tail-end of the chopper is visible, but not the nose. Takes some doing, and sometimes the random number gods just really have it in for me, but it’s typically the best way for me to get at them. I’ve actually had a lot of fun trying to avoid the choppers while still being in a position to be able to fight back at them. Lots of sneaking around, ducking behind buildings (hoping some motherless mother-humper doesn’t run up behind me and shank me with a knife) etc.
Strela-3. I shoot those bastards down the second they get up. Spy planes, Cobras, Hueys. It doesn’t matter. They go up, I bring them down.
It’s not slow going. The second the announcer says they’re coming, have your launcher out and pointing at the horizon to get a shot off at them (and so they use up their flares) before they even get to the battlefield.
This is what I did in MW 2. Point at the part of the sky the airsupport is going to arrive from. I had a nack of shooting everything down the second it arrived. Eventually I got lazy and stopped bothering.
Exactly, the STRELA-3 is on my stock guy (Assault and submachine gun kits really never need the side arm pistol) and I have that thing pointed at the incoming chopper before it’s even in range to start doing its thing.
Course I’m on level 10 again so that’s someone else’s job.
To get the kills for Ghost pro, you can shoot at ANYTHING in the air, not just choppers - Spy planes are easy targets!
Yep. This is also important. I think I got Ghost Pro in 6 games.
It’s interesting that so many servers seem to have rules prohibiting “Noob Tubes” or the use of the “Second Chance” perk, but no such issues with ballistic knives (an insta-kill stealth weapon impossible to defend against) and Killstreaks like the Attack Helicopters or Napalm, which are basically a licence to spawn-kill.
Ah crap, why didn’t I think of that?
I have been using the Strela-3 but I always get shot by the helicopter before it locks on. Drives me f-in’ crazy.
Out of those things, ballistic knives bother me the least. Then Last Stand, Napalm, noob tubes, and then attack helicopters (the Huey much more than the Cobra).
Yeah, the gunships are ridiculous. Die, spawn, die instantly, spawn, die instantly, and so on. As an old guy who’s struggling to level up and finally get a decent weapon, the endless deaths at the hands of younger guys who leveled up on Release Day is very frustrating. I still like MW2 better.
Although I think combat training on Black Ops is a blast. It’s cheating yourself, kinda, but if you’re just looking for fun without getting slaughtered, it fits the bill.
I think the choppers last too long, but in general I don’t mind them. I love when you shoot someone with last stand and then they try to pull out their pistol and you shoot them again, it’s like ‘how many times do I have to kick your ass?’
OTOH, it’s strangely satisfying when YOU get shot while you have Last Stand, and you shoot the guy back. Bonus points if you proceed to shoot someone else who comes around the corner and doesn’t see you lying there.
You know what? I miss the Martyr perk from Modern Warfare. It was absolutely horrible with the friendly fire, obviously, but I racked up quite a few kills with it.
Also, another question that has been confusing me lately - what is that weird little blue thing that pops up at the bottom of my screen sometimes when I’m running around. It looks almost like a fist or something, but I can’t really tell. It’s accompanied with a sound effect that I’m having trouble placing, as well. What the hell is that? A fist? A dolphin?
You’d think after playing multiplayer for more than 48 hours, I’d have figured that out.
Sounds like Scavenger. If you have that for Perk 1, and you automatically pick up ammo/nades/etc while you’re running around, a blue icon with a bird in it pops up. Took me a while to figure that one out, too.
I’d estimate probably 20% of my kills come from the Second Chance perk; and once you get Second Chance Pro you stay alive a lot longer and can be revived, making it very useful indeed.
What’s up Blops on the Wii buddy? We only own a Wii since my wife likes to play games too and doesn’t like the learning curve on the controllers for the big boy systems so that was my only real choice. I copped a Classic Controller Pro though so that I can at least use a normal controller. PM me your ally number if you want and we can kill 12 year olds together.
A few observations most of the way to my second prestige:
For me the best gun in the game is the Stoner 63 which gets no love from most people. It has increadible power and the manuverability isn’t as bad as the other LMGs are. I use Warlord Pro so I can have the Extended Magazine and I’m partial to the Red Dot as well. I barely ever used any of the LMGs on my first go round preferring the FAMAS and then the AK or Commando but this time it’s pretty much my preferred weapon of choice.
I am sick of playing Nuketown and Firing Range. It seems that lately I end up on one of those two more than half of my game time. Yeah, small maps are fun, but not the 6th time in a row (Wii doesn’t limit the number of times you can play a map in a row). I don’t know if I can get tired of WMD or Hanoi, those two are perfect. The one with the beach I really dislike, it’s too disjointed.
Speaking of load outs, my current and favorite:
Main:Stoner63 / aforementioned upgrades (high power spraying death)
Secondary:CZ75 with the full auto upgrade (I’m not big on the secondary stuff so an extra machine gun works for me)
Frag Grenade (bouncing them is more useful to me than Semtex)
Flash Grenade (Poof, guess who’s gonna die now Stevie Wonder?)
Claymore (the most key piece of gear in my loadout to be honest. Watch my back while I camp buddy.)
Flak Jacket (haha, screw *your *claymore buddy! POW!)
Warlord Pro (extra grenades and double add ons rule)
Ninja (the shankers choice)
Killstreaks:
Spy plane (really handy, easy to get, 100 points for launching)
Sentry Gun (easy to destroy, but put it in the right place and it’s awesome)
Attack Dogs (hard to get, but hysterical when you do)
Does anyone else enjoy the Hardcore mode? Friendly Fire is a pain in the ass but overall I have to say I prefer it to the standard mode, especially since the lack of HUD means you really do have to aim down the sights to hit people- which slows the game down enough to give more cautious players an edge, IME.
