Call the Midwife; series 7 on PBS (open spoilers)

Series 7 is starting tonight on PBS. We’re finally getting a non-white immigrant midwife this series. Also beware Wikipedia; I just accidently came across a major spoiler for on the characters looking at the episode guide for this series. :smack:

I’m really enjoying this season and tonight’s subplot with the health class went in an interesting direction. And we’re coming up on that big spoiler.

We keep watching this series, although I can’t figure out why. They seem to go out of their way to hire actors who are professional sad sacks. Everyone is always on the edge of some personal misery, it seems. But it’s pretty harmless. The did a poor job of hiding Trixie’s real-life pregnancy and we got a good chuckle out of the attempts to keep us from seeing it.

Well Barbara finally died.

I enjoyed the season finale. The story with the elderly gay couple was really touching and had as happy as was plausible for the timeframe. The sudden influx of patients was reminiscent of the early seasons before the baby boom started to taper off. The sudden announcement of President Kenney being shot was really jarring and out of place, but then again that’s exactly how it was in real life.

I can’t believe this season is over already, it seems like it just started… I’m reading the books, and there’s a mention that before the birth control pill was a common thing, the midwives would attend 100 births a month. After The Pill - down to 4 births a month!

If you’re curious, the show obviously needs an influx of new characters, and they were recently announced. Here’s a brief video clip of who’s coming.
