While out for a walk the last night, I found myself on the top of Nob Hill in San Francisco, I saw cars parked on the street at right angles to the curb on a very steep grade (according to one map I have, the grade is over 18%). It made me think about the San Francisco Earthquake in 1989, and I wondered what happened to cars parked in such a manner. (I was living in Los Angeles at the time).
There are approximately 3500 astronomers in the U.S., but over 15000 astrologers.
What’s YOUR sign?
I don’t live there (I did live in Berkeley for a few years). I do remember looking at cars parked nose-in on some of the steeper hills and wondering if a flat (or two) on the downhill side might not move the center of gravity enough to get the car on a roll.
How come we never hear from you about the Bay Area meetings?
In 1989, all the cars stayed where they were… at least in North Beach. Hills are bedrock, bedrock does not move as much as the landfill areas such as the Marina district. just a WAG
