6.1 Earthquake this morning near Napa.

Significant damage being reported as a strong earthquake hits northern California.

Any dopers affected? I didn’t feel anything up here near Placerville.

Still waiting to hear from family & friends. They may have slept through it…

I woke up briefly to some gentle, repeated rocking. In my mid-sleep haze I remember it lasted a few seconds. I’m in Sunnyvale.

ETA: Sunnyvale is 40 miles south of San Francisco and 70 miles south of Napa. And Placerville is 100 miles NNE of Napa.

The CNN article says it’s the strongest Bay Area quake since the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake that struck just before Game 3 of the World Series (San Francisco Giants vs. Oakland A’s - the ‘Bay Bridge Series’).

Felt it enough in Sacramento to have an earthquake dream, but not wake up. No damage in my Dad’s neighborhood in Vallejo.

My wife’s cousins live in Napa. They’re alright but have some house damage. Still too soon to know how extensive it is.

Slept through it here in Santa Clara.

Sonoma county, checking in. Woke us up but the kids slept thru it. No pictures askew or anything here. Looks like Napa got it pretty hard though - some buildings damaged and. A few fires.

Ditto, here in San Francisco, 45 miles closer to the epicenter.

The effects were apparently quite local to the area north of Vallejo, including Napa county.

I was awake (as usual) so I felt it in San Jose, but pretty faintly. It was definitely a roller rather than a jolter. None of the dogs woke up either.

Suburban Plankton and I mostly slept through it here in Sacramento. The cats were acting very weird, meowing loudly for no real reason I could detect. I got up opened the back door and went back to bed. Eventually they shut up. Looking back, that was around the time of the quake.

North San Jose. Woke me up, though I’ve been sleeping light due to a cold. Only just enough to get my bookshelves swaying and knickknacks rattling.

Here’s what my seismometer captured. Peak acceleration was about 12 cm/s[sup]2[/sup]. Interesting to see the really weak shaking before the big jolt. I’m pretty sure there is something to the “animals sense quakes before humans” thing, though the effect is weak and unreliable.

Waiting to hear from family near Napa. Did not wake us up in Morgan Hill (South of San Jose).

Now I wish that I had wrote in this topic what I originally had in it… Namely that I just had a dream about an earthquake happening (I live in Arizona) and that on more than one occasion, I’ve had dreams about things before they happened.
It was my whole point behind starting that topic, the earthquake in the dream was very strong, although not huge/devastating. Still, it was bigger than average. So I woke up with earthquakes on my mind (since I had only ever been in one before) and wanted to talk about them a bit.

I even had written down (in that topic OP) “So if an earthquake happens in the next few days, you heard it here first.” but then took it out of the OP because I didn’t want it to sound too weird (I’m not someone who believes in ESP or anything like that, for the record).
You can even SEE that I edited it to take that part out (as the “edited by” shows)

I kind of wish I had left it in, though…it would have been crazy today.
I hope everyone is safe and that the damage is minimal.

6.1 is serious, but NoCal residents take it in stride. 6.0 + is classified as a “strong” earthquake. Loma Prieta (1989) was 6.9 and it was pretty devastating. Hope you Bay area residents are all safe and secure and any aftershocks are little and few.

Considering there are several million earthquakes per year, that’s not really ESP stuff there. Of course, the majority of those are < 2.0 and felt by very few people.
But, just to be safe, PLEASE pick 6 random numbers between 1 and 60 and post them for me.
Thank you.

I never thought it was ESP stuff…I even said “I don’t believe in ESP stuff”, haha.
I just thought it was a freaky coincidence.

But sure, I’ll indulge: 8, 17, 19, 26, 44, 45

Nothing here in Campbell.

What’s the real story with broken wine bottles? Joke fodder or significant monetary losses?

The hot springs around here(Carson City Nv ) were hotter.

Felt like a good hard shock on the Peninsula–woke everyone up, set off car alarms all over the place.
