Earthquaaaaake!

OK, just a small one. Did’ya feel it?
8:05ish in San Jose, CA.

It shook pretty good in my neighborhood. I really, really don’t like watching the walls move towards me when I’m trying to get out the door, thanks.

I felt it, very mildly, out in Berkeley. I’m not sure exactly how to describe the sensation; a bit like the floor was a tuning fork just at the very end of its resonance, coming to a gentle end. It was over in all of several seconds.

Hell yeah I felt it. Shook the hell out of our house. Phones are down, and my girlfriend is off AIM. I want to make sure she’s okay in Santa Cruz :frowning:

Felt it here in Turlock. One quick jolt.

I felt it pretty good. A couple of things fell off a shelf. Another 5 seconds or so, and I would’ve been out the door. USGS calls it a 5.6 outside of Alum Rock Park.

Not at all in Santa Barbara.

San Francisco here, rolled for a good 7 seconds I’d say. Enough that me and my roommate from San Diego half-stood up off the couch.

I’m less than 10 miles from the epicenter, here. Felt it pretty good, but everything’s still in order. A few things fell off shelves upstairs and broke.

If any of you want you can report what you observed to the USGS - click on the big square (red for now) on this map or go directly to here.

I was playing Halo 3 online, when someone piped in: “Woah, I think there was just an earthquake.” I’m felt it pretty good, and I’m in a massive concrete building built post 2000. By the time I figured what it was, it was over.

News stations are reporting it as 5.6 centered out past Alum Rock in East San Jose. Nothing fell off any shelves here, and I’m near Oakridge Mall.
ETA: Missed that blondbear post. I kept waiting for it to get worse or go on longer.

I’m way down in Gilroy, and it shook pretty good, for what seemed like a long time (20 seconds?). Everyone in the house quickly got under a doorway until it subsided.

Larkspur, here. Didn’t feel a thing, but my apartment is built on an old rock quarry. My mom, just over in Corte Madera, called me right after it happened to see if I was okay, so I guess they got a good jolt over there.

totally scared me. Earthquakes really freak me out. My dog did not react at all though. The news said it was 5.6

I’m so jealous of you guys.

I want an earthquake dammit!

We didn’t feel it here in our house in El Cerrito (near Berkeley), which kind of surprises us since we are usually pretty good at feeling the small ones we’ve had around this area. (Alum Rock is about 50 miles from here, but I still thought we’d have felt a 5.6.)

I felt it in Merced County, but not enough to trigger my get-under-the-doorframe reflex. I blamed the kids for kicking my chair until I saw other things swinging.

Then I blamed the train.

It wasn’t the train.

No, you don’t. Trust me.

It made it to Merced? Far out.

Must have fizzled out before it got here to Fresno.

I was in South SJ, and it was the strongest I’ve felt since Loma Prieta. Being a lot closer this time probably helped. A couple things fell and picture frames are off-kilter at work, but no real damage.

Is it just me, or have decent-sized earthquakes such as this been pretty rare since Loma Prieta? (I seem to remember them happening with greater frequency before Loma Prieta).
