Calling car mechanics ... or Bruce Springsteen fans!

In his superb song ‘Racing in the Street’, Springsteen mentions a '69 Chevy with:

  • a 396
  • Fuelie (?) heads
  • a Hurst (?) on the floor

Which car parts are these, please?

396= 396 cubic inch engine
Fuelie heads= fuel injection
Hurst on the floor= manual stick shifter (probably a 4-speed)

3 minutes to reply?! :eek:
What kept you? :confused:

Seriously, thanks. I shall enjoy the song even more now. :cool:

Hurst shifters.

A 396 Chevy.

Fuelie heads does not mean the car was fuel injected. Fuelie head were designed for drag racing and were meant to be used with a supercharger. They are designed with much larger intake and exhause plenums to handle the increased volume that a supercharger supplied. When the fuelie heads are installed on a street car with a decent aftermarket intake manifold and a large Holley 4 barrel carb, you had an almost unbeatable combination. They were called fuelie heads because top fuel dragsters of the era were the first to use them.

A supercharger. :smiley:
