Calls that say "Blocked Caller" with no record on your carrier...

I’ve gotten calls from cell phones where the ID says “Blocked Caller”. I don’t answer them, because I think its good practice to always screen calls from people you don’t know. I never find out who it is, though, because they hang up as soon as the machine comes on.

In my days with the utility, some of the field techs repairing electricity used to have company phones that did this to protect them, but I haven’t had any power outages in my area.

What other companies have access to and use “blocked caller” cell phones that leave no record with a telephone carrier?

As far as I know, anyone can do it. There’s a three button code you put in before you make the call, and your Caller ID will be blocked. Though I’m not sure what you mean by “leaving no record with the carrier”–a blocked number can be traced, as far as I know.

*67

My cellphone blocks transmission of caller ID data by default. It’s how I roll. My contacts are all listed as *82(xxx)xxx-xxxx to allow people who know my number to see who is calling.
