Cambodia, Laos--voluntarism ideas?

I was going to go to Cambodia for about two weeks with a U.S. non-profit organization. This trip has been canceled (low sign-up, probably reflecting this fall’s economic downturn). I, however, have non-refundable tickets as well as scheduled activities for weeks 3 and 4 of my trip.

My question to you: Do you have recommendations for non-profit, educational, or social service organizations (in Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, or nearby) that I could contact to see if they could use a few days of my volunteer time, or if I could visit and learn about their agency/school and talk with people there?

Bonus question: Anyone have contacts of this sort in Laos? At the university in Laos?

I don’t need tourism information for Cambodia, or suggestions for sightseeing. I’m being let off work for this trip, so my focus is on activities that justify this and will provide grist for asynchronous lessons posted online for my students while I’m there.

Thanks.

I have no recommendations for you but I would like to commend you on your efforts.

Thank you. It’s a desperate attempt to be as brave as my undergraduates. I’m all for traveling light and flexibly, but I don’t want to wind up sitting in a guest house all day frittering away the time. I’ve located some agencies that work with children in Siem Reap, but I’m hoping not to do cold calls (in this case, cold visits) if I don’t have to.
