I’ve been to Angkor Wat. I’m not surprised that there are no Cambodian Dopers here because the country is dirt poor and consists for the most part of subsistence farmers.
I did see an internet cafe in Siam Riap, but it was for tourists.
Yes, Iteki I know Bangkok is in Thailand. I have spent a fair bit of time there. It did sound snappy too, so thanks for clarifying it wasn’t meant that way
The reason I included Bangkok with Phnom Penh as a good place to track someone in Cambodia down, is that Bangkok is relatively kind to English-only speakers, much closer than the US (where I assume the OP’s friend is from) and probably cheaper to hire someone to help you, if you consider including your searching with a holiday.
It really depends on why/who the OP’s friend is searching for. If the OP’s friend is a Cambodian migrant’s offspring who speaks fluent Khmer and wants track down great-granny, then other options are probably better. If the OP’s friend is searching for a long-lost penpal on a spare-time, it’s Sunday-afternoon-and-I’m-bored-I-wonder-how-X-is-doing whim, then flying to Cambodia probably isn’t a good option either. Depends on why and who.
Anyway, that’s partly why I included Bangkok when I suggested Phnom Penh.
The friend was taken out of Cambodia as an infant by the Red Cross and adopted. I am pretty good at finding people, but we are off to a shaky start, honestly not even being sure when exactly he was born. We just know it was 1974…
My first “lead” is that his mum may have been a professor at a university in Phnom Penh, but I don’t know if they have more than one. I tried to google it, but it wasn’t much help.
