Campbell's exec: our soup is shit for poor people

Water. Until they cut back on that, too.

Still no mention of the classic chicken noodle soup? That stuff is awesome. I’d eat it even if the meat was lab grown.

The Cream of Mushroom and Cream of Chicken is essential for many comfort food recipes.

Seems like it used to have about an 80:20 beans to broth ratio. I used to like to drink off most of the broth first, and be left with a big ol’ bowl of beans. But by the 21st century, the ratio seems to have gone more 60:40 beans to broth.

And Cream of Celery!

And cornstarch. Mostly water and cornstarch w some beans for texture and to avoid truth in advertising violations.

Campbell condensed Cheddar soup is a useful base to make a cheese sauce. I see a can used in many homestyle recipes.

I make broccoli cheddar chicken and it uses that soup.

I wouldn’t eat Cream of Mushroom or Cheddar by itself as a soup.

Campbell’s condensed soup is unique. The other brands aren’t typically used as a recipe base sauce.

Oh, he hit several of the current right-wing conspiracy nut buzzwords.
It seems an ability to use buzzwords in a sentence is a major part of the knowledge of IT managers – or even managers in general nowadays.

Having a brain full of RW conspiracy buzzwords seems especially important, or at least commonplace, these days. Especially if you’re a rager.

Funny how tastes vary. For me, Campbell’s tomato soup is far better than other tomato soups, and also the only Campbell soup that I enjoy.

Ooooo….Puree Mongole! One can of Campbell’s split pea soup (the green one) and one can of Campbell’s tomato soup. Mix with milk or water, a bit of curry powder and/or sherry, and it is much better than the sum of its parts.

I would not have thought so, but it’s sure worth a try now with its two-Doper thumbs up.

How on earth have I never heard of this before???

Purée Mongole is a creamed split pea and tomato soup, not of Mongolian origin, that was popular in the early to mid-20th century. A simplified version is made by combining condensed pea soup and condensed tomato soup with milk, water, and a dash of curry powder. It was a favorite of President John F. Kennedy and FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover.

A taste from the past!

That sounds like it would look like zombie vomit… but it would probably taste pretty good.

It sounds like one of the “potions” my kids would mix when they were toddlers.

The Great Depression isn’t exactly known for its fine cuisine.

Bean with Bacon was one of soups mom would foist on us. My next youngest brother loved, I thought that vomit (zombie or otherwise) was a fairly good description of the look and taste.

I think I would dislike it, but mostly I’m just really surprised I never heard of it. Probably too exotic for our '60s household.

Are you referring to Bean w Bacon or to Purée Mongole? Some subsequent posters seem misled on that point.

I enjoyed the Cream of Potato one.
