What is this? A movie?
To my old eyes, it looked more like Queen Victoria.
I can speculate. It appears to be a cameo and these are very often used on lockets. It may have been given to her by her mother, grandmother, aunt, etc. If it is a locket it probably contains a picture of a loved one. In earlier times it might have held a lock of a loved ones hair. It’s likely old, perhaps a family heirloom, and worn for sentimetal reasons, as well as asthetics.
Cameos are not as common as they once were.
Not to hijack, but who is the woman wearing it? She looks familiar, but I can’t place her.

I love her. I want to buy her bigger necklaces on longer chains. I want to help her position them in exactly the right place. I want to smooth out the wrinkles in her dress. I want to spray paint her with honey and cinnamon. I want to be young again. I think the necklace she is wearing is an opal cameo but I need to see it up close and personal before I can say for sure.
