Can anyone help me remember this toy from the 60's?

In the 1960’s I had a couple of toys that were themed together (but sold separately - batteries not included) that I cannot remember the name of to save my life - perhaps someone has a clue?

First there was a car - it was perhaps 12" long, red plastic, vaguely corvette looking and battery operated. It had a front fender and a rear fender that could be removed and replaced with smashed-up versions that you could pretend to fix by removing them and putting on the non-smashed up versions - they fit with pegs into holes.

Second there was a “garage” or “body shop” which had a red plastic top frame and a red plastic bottom frame between which fit lithographed heavy carboard “walls”. There were also red plastic accessories like a jack and a trash barrel. This was perhaps 15" x 20" X 8" high, and was meant to go with the car.

Third there was an all-plastic “car wash” which was perhaps was about 9" wide x 24" long, with clear plasic side windows and yellow foam rollers, and reservoirs in which you could put water dish soap in the top (I remember playing with this in the driveway because that’s the only place my mom would let me play with it with water)

I seem to remeber that it MIGHT have been called “Johnny”-something. It MIGHT have been made by Marx and it MIGHT have been sold in Sears stores (all of out Christmas toys seemed to come from Sears). Any help out there?

Is this it?

No, sorry. Not even close. Thanks anyway.

Ah, a girl can try, right?

Anyway, here’s a website called Ask Dr. Toy that has a HUGE list of questions about toys of all kinds from the last 60 years. Maybe you could try and post your question there?

Never seen what you’re describing, but I do know of die cast cars in a line called “Johnny Lightning.” Maybe a search will bring up something you recognize?

Asking about an old toy kinda stetches the “entertainment” aspect of Cafe Socirty, so I’m going to move this thread to MPSIMS, where it will probably get better answers.

There were STP smash-'em up durby cars which were popular in the late 1960’s and 1970’s. This might fit your decsription. [Also along these lines, the Evil K’nevil stunt motorcycle was a big hit for the boys…]. - Jinx

try, i think, yesteryearland or yesterdayland.com. they may have it.
