Having read a few threads, and seen how brilliant you guys are, thought I would try my luck, hoping someone can help…
I read a novel, but cant remember the author or title…
Brief synopsis is that Ireland was invaded (i think by cubans), and the plan to free the country involves a young girl called maeve, who is crowned as queen, and goes round the celtic regiments of britain and recruits troops to fight and reclaim ireland…
It includes a scotish general called Stewart (surname), And i think that Croke Park was used as an internment camp…
I REALLY want to read it again, but google isnt helping
A description from a thread mocking the book as one of the worst books about Ireland(sorry, their description, not mine!):
I’ve bolded the part that might refer to this Maeve (not the historic one, obviously). Only reason I think this might be the same book is that one of the reviews in that Amazon link refers to “Long live Queen Maeve!” Though I don’t know if that’s a reference to the historic one or the character in the book. Anyway, it’s the best I could find. (The invaders aren’t Cubans though, just um Libyans, living in Chile, pretending to be Spanish students. Of course. :))
