Hey everyone, My daughter has asked me to help gather information about adoption.
She has tried some treatments to get pregnant, but at 33, she is ready to start the adoption process and we know very little about how to proceed.
It’s super expensive and we don’t have a lot of money, so if you know of any financial help out there, we’d love to know about it.
Specifically, she has asked me to get price quotes to have a home study done.
She is near Sacramento, California. Google just brings up foster parenting type services for me and she does not really want to go that route. She doesn’t think she can cope with losing the child when they return to their homes, which I think is most common?
So, anyone know of a good place for us to start in our Northern California Area?
Thanks in advance for any help. My heart just breaks for her. She wants a baby so darn bad.
My recommendation would be to start with Resolve.org. It is an infertility-related website with a ton of information about all family-building options and issues, including adoption. There are articles and podcasts, and there are message boards where you could pose your questions to an audience that is going to be more specifically knowledgeable about adoption than on a general message board like this.
Oh thank you Tom. I did try adoption.org, but it would not allow me to ask any questions.
I feared this might fall flat here, but when your kid hurts, you hurt, so you try it all. :0)
I ended up calling the county adoption agency and they suggest she start with an orientation class they offer for free, so I think that’s her best bet.
