Can anyone ID this plant?

Hi. I was just hoping that maybe someone here could Identify this odd tree in my yard. You can’t tell from the picture, but the leaves are slightly fuzzy and look just like a dogwood leaf. The flowers are very much like Queen Anne’s Lace flowers.

If anyone could Identify this, It would be greatly appreciated. To my knowledge it has never bloomed until this year.

Is this it? It looks much closer to your picture in my Sunset Western Garden book.

wow! That looks like the one! Of course, none of the fruit has come yet, it’s too early according to the site, but we will see! It looks like a match! Thanks very much!

I believe it may be a species of dogwood, but not Flowering Dogwood (which is the best known one). There are a number of other species of dogwood, with much smaller flowers.

One candidate is Roughleaf Dogwood Cornus drummondii, but there are other possibilities.

A couple of key dogwood characteristics are the opposite simple leaves, and arcuate leaf venation (the veins run along the edge of the leaf).

Some viburnums look similar, but usually have small teeth on the leaf edge.

Definitely not a Fringe Tree - the flowers are very different.
