Can anyone identify this SF story?

A long time ago I read a science fiction story that I have been trying to track down again without any success. My memory of specific details is vague at this point, but the general plot was about a surfing contest that I think took place on a planet with truly gigantic waves. I think the main character rode one of these waves for thousands of miles in the contest. I can’t remember much else about it, but it may have been in an anthology with a sports theme.

At one point I thought it might have been Hilbert Schenck’s “Wave Rider,” but I read that recently and it is not the same story. Can anyone help?

Woo hoo! An “Identify the SF Story” with 0 follow-ups!

This is a short story by Alan Dean Foster, appearing in “…Who Needs Enemies.” Title “Surfeit.”

Thank you! I know I had a copy of that collection at some point, so I need to find it. It’s probably in a box somewhere.
