This is an older short story (can’t have been from later than 1970) about aliens who come upon a deserted Earth, with buildings and signs of civilization still intact.
Wanting to find out more about the planet, they revive an ancient human dead body, and are frustrated by mutual misunderstanding, so they kill him.
Then they revive a modern-day human dead body, who thinks he’s having hallucinations from drinking (he may have died in a drunk-driving accident,) so they kill him too.
Finally they revive a future human dead body, who proves to have a very impressive intellect and possibly psychic or supernatural powers, and is quite a lot for them to handle…

A story I read about three decades ago had aliens disguising themselves as shredded tires on the side of the highway. Shredded tires that would EAT PEOPLE. The description has stayed with me but I have no idea the name of the book or possibly short story.

<smack> Interdimensional monsters! No wonder they were so scary. Thank you soooo much. I believe I will buy it with the gift card that came with my birthday Kindle this week!
Ok…I’m going to back a winning hand here and ask about this short sci-fi story I read about 20 years ago, give or take. I’m pretty sure it was in a compilation of sci-fi stories, likely the type that come out every year. It may even have been fantasy, but…
The story follows a group of futuristic archaeologists, who are excavating the seabed, specifically the sunken land bridge between North America and Asia.
And…that’s all I’ve got. >.< Sound familiar to anyone?
