Can anyone recommend a car-campground close to Montreal?

Starting Saturday, my girlfriend and I are planning to visit Montreal for our weeklong vacation. (We spent just three days there last year, loved it, and want to see more. And I can’t wait to eat more poutine.)

We’re looking for a campground within driving distance of Montreal. Or maybe just within driving distance of the train station. Better yet, near a bike path so we could cycle into town.

Our only other requirement is a hot shower, and a flush toilet if possible. Silly things such as on-site video arcades and souvenir shops aren’t important, but we’ll tolerate a “family” campground if need be.

My girlfriend received
this link for an area called the Laurentians, but I can’t make out on their little map if that’s even anywhere close to Montreal.

P.S. I have already bookmarked matt_mcl’s site all about the Metro, and it looks to be excellent. I plan to study it further before our trip.

The Laurentians are just north of Montréal. Your best bet would be in either the Deux-Montagnes or Blainville area. Here is a map of the Montréal area. The Laurentians are what is listed as Région touristique des Laurentides. The Deux-Montagnes area is on the shore of Lac des Deux-Montagnes, the Blainville area is the next one east of it.

Here are other camp sites, located either west or south of Montréal.

Also, you will find here a list of the commuter train routes (sorry, it’s in French, if you need any help, do not hesitate to e-mail me) deserving Montréal.

Off to IMHO.
