Can companies sue over using their copyrighted symbols on Ecstasy Tablets??

For example, there are some tablets of Ecstasy with the Mitsubishi or Rolex symbols on them. If a lab is siezed and dies and pills are found with their copyrighted logo on it, can they sue for copyright infringement? I would imagine it would be bad for a company to have its lgo associated with drugs. Would the dealers technically be making money from selling items with the symbol?

Thanks!

this is a question ive wondered myself for a while. i cant really give any solid answers but i dont think theyd be sued unless the pill press had the actual stamp in it. if it didnt, they really couldnt prove they produced that particular pill. i would actually think that some companies like the free advertising that pills give them. who knows, audi just might benefit from having their rings or TT stamped on a pill?

Grr. TRADEMARKS, not copyrights.

And they probably could sue, even if they do like the free advertising. After all, some drug producer isn’t going to be deterred from using the marks in his or her next batch. If he gets caught, he’s screwed anyway.

Why would they sue?

If it’s an illegal drugs lab, then the producers are going down anyway. Any monies they have are likely to be the result of illegal drug sales, so I don’t know if legallly they can be kept (and therefore ‘won’ in a civil suit).

This is just anecdotal but I heard that sales of Mitsubishi motors here in the UK have, over the last few years, climbed among the 20-30 age-group, with one of the factors being the association we make between the pills and the car.

I think that Mitsubishi even picked up on this and had Pete Tong (a DJ) advertising their cars - kinda “nudge nudge wink wink” marketing for “those in the know”…

happiness = Pills
pills = Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi = happiness

I wonder if Mitsubishi would ever admit officially that they are benefitting from the ubiquity of ‘Bishis’ in the UK club scene…?

Would make for an interesting shareholders’ meeting if nothing else!
… right on one, matey! :slight_smile:
