I have no access to a car right now, as mine is in the shop… but I don’t want to go to the deil section of the grocery store and get weird looks if I ask for a pound of half-inch cubes of cheese. Do they have the equipment to do this?
I know they can slice it thick enough so that you can cube it yourself. Just make sure they know it’s going to be cubed, so they make it thick enough.
Also, cubed cheese is sold in bags now, in the dairy section where the shredded cheeses live. Depending on what kind you need, you can probably get it there, too.
As long as you give them enough time to do it, they should be able to fill your order. I would call ahead and ask. Most delis make meat, cheese, and veggie trays to order.
That is right. Most delis make party platters to order. You asked about meat too in your title so I assume you want some of that as well. Just pick a quality store and let them do the whole thing for you. It tends to be pretty cost effective.
Oh yeah!. So maybe they’ll do a custom tray… but in small quantities. That’ll be hooray.
I used to work at a Cala/Ralphs deli, nothing fancy, and our slicers could open up to almost two inches, so even the crappiest deli should at least be able to give you some extra-thick slices that you can finish cubing yourself.
As noted, many grocery delis actively promote assortments of cubed meats and cheeses, especially around the holidays. Around here, such platters are even called “deli platters”
My question is: if you weren’t sure a deli could do it, where do you go for deli platters (or whatever they’re called where you are)?
What on earth does cubed meat have to do with a car? Do you have some sort of lighter attachment that does it for you while you drive to work or something?
I’m thinking that the OP doesn’t want to walk all the way to the grocery store, only to have the Deli counter attendant tell them “What??!! Cubed Meat and Cheese??!! Get out of here, you crazy pedestrian, we don’t do that!”.
I wouldn’t either.
But I’m sure we’re going to see ads for the CommuterCuisinart anytime, now that you’ve mentioned it.
Yeah, my car is in the shop. It’s done now, though (just got a call), so after work I can go walk down there and pick it up.
(Bolt apparently was missing or broken in a brake somewhere… made this horrible grinding noise when I drove. And I mean horrible. )
