Can Democrats actually stop the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh?

Has this sex crimes expert a name? A certification from the American Association of Sex Crimes Experts?

UltraVires if Collins is a “no”, your Senator ends up being the deciding vote. What you said he did not want to be. How will he react then?

You’ll find there are lots of 2/3 bedroom houses built in the 20s-70s (and probably earlier, but I’m not familiar with those) with only one shared bathroom, on the second floor (and it will be above the kitchen to share the plumbing).

I mentioned Carboard Cory before in this thread. His official position as of yesterday was undecided.

He’s up for reelection in 2020 in a state Clinton won by 5 points and is probably already doomed. A ‘yes’ vote won’t help at all and the widely ignored Deborah Ramirez is his constituent.

Yeah - being proud about THAT (and slow walking so many of Obama’s judicial nominations), I find it difficult to accept him being critical of ANYTHING anyone else might do to impede a nomination.

And for anyone who is criticizing any aspect of the opposition to Kavanaugh today, I am curious whether they just as loudly criticized McConnell’s position. Why is one acceptable and the other not?

I will note that I generally believe great judicial deference ought to be afforded the nomination of a sitting President. For example, while I thought Thomas horribly unqualified and think he has proven as much, I respected Bush’s right to nominate him. In short, the Dems screwed up by losing an election they should have had in the bag. Having lost that election, the winners have a great deal of latitude in judicial (and other) appointments. Hope all the idiots who voted Green - or didn’t vote - appreciate that now.

I also admit that I have some difficulty with the substance of the accusations and the way they were handled. I’m trying to get my middle aged male brain around some issues of memory and such. Just admitting where I’m coming from.

But it just seems to me that it shouldn’t be too difficult to find someone who is minimally qualified who DOESN’T have as much apparent baggage as Kavanaugh. For example, Gorsuch’s views are odious, but he never conducted himself in a manner that contributed to even poorly substantiated accusations of sexual assault/excessive underage drinking. I’m willing to accept an awfully low bar - and am regularly impressed when folk appear willing to slither under even that.

Collins has made it very, very clear all along she’ll vote for Kavanaugh without actually committing, by making statements about how Kavanaugh is okay by the standards she claims to uphold; she’s said all signs are he’ll uphold Roe v. Wade, claimed the FBI investigation was thorough, and claimed she wasn’t hearing negative things from her constituents about him. All those things are lies, of course.

And then lied about it under oath.

Set it as low as a doggie door, and we get Justice Spuds MacKenzie.

Why does this mean all two story homes have a bathroom on the first floor? I live in a Cape Cod that was built in the 30’s and the only bathroom is upstairs.

So we’re all waiting to hear Collins decision at 3:00pm Eastern? If she’s a yes, Kavanaugh has 50 votes, right?

The meeting with sexual assault victims was no rumor, it was a news story.

Kavanaugh has NOT apologized.

The WSJ piece by Kavanaugh has been continually referred to as an “apology”.

It’s NOT. Nowhere does he apologize.

Thanks.

It appears Gardner may not be solid.

Would McConnell call a vote if the result wasn’t 100% certain? And, if he did and it’s a “no”, what happens then? Can they wait til the mid-terms and vote on him again if the republicans get a solid majority in the Senate?

At Trump’s most recent Nuremberg rally, he was actually making fun of Al Franken for “folding” when he was accused of sexual improprieties. Because from the Republican mindset, men should be proud of their assaults, apparently.

I believe President Trump would have to re-nominate him at the start of Congress’ next term. That is, I believe, what Lindsay Graham was suggesting he do.

Edit window past. Inclusion of the word “judicial” was error. Apologies for any confusion.

AND who would be just as willing to overturn Roe. What’s so special about Kav? Except McConnell refuses to even give the appearance of caving to the Dems anything they want.

Republicans have totally covered themselves in glory on this one! Giddy with anticipation of the huge flood of votes from grateful American women!
