Can different grades of glycerin hurt my skin?

I usually buy glycerin from Walmart to mix with other junk to make a moisturizing liquid. The glycerin comes in little 2-4 ounce bottles, for about 2-4 bucks per. In addition to a dollar an ounce price, Walmart is slowly discontinuing to market it. I now have to go to the WM pharmacy and ask for it. Many of the Walmart pharmacies have stopped carrying it, or I have to special order it. Great.
So, I googled up quite a few sites that sell glycerin from 30-120 dollars a gallon, any of which could beat the heck out of the dollar an ounce that WM charges. However, they advertise these as different grades of glycerin.

???

I have no idea what grade that I buy from WM, but even if I experiment with a few gallons, I will still come out with a cheaper, more convenient product.

So, the question is: Are there any grades of glycerin that will damage my skin, or that I should avoid?
Thanks,
hh

I’d be careful of the nitro-grade stuff.

That would explain much! :smack:

I started googling around myself and saw the “several grades” thing with no description of what they are. The only thing I could suggest is call them or email and tell them your intent. I’m sure they’d be more than happy to tell you the right grade.

I’m going to keep looking and if I find anything of substance, I’ll report back.

Apparently terms like Pharmaceutical grade pop up quite often. I found this on ebay: Vegetable glycerin.
