So I was petting my dog the other day and I hit a spot on him and his reaction reminded me of a person getting tickled. So it got me thinking, is it possible for animals to be ticklish? Or would they need to be able to laugh first?
I don’t think there is any scientific way to prove that dogs are ticklish, but as a dog owner for a long time myself, and a former pet-sitter, I do think they must feel a similar sensation sometimes. They just aren’t capable of laughing the way we do.
Lots of dogs will start pumping a back leg if you hit that certain spot on their sides. I’ve always assumed there must be a nerve running through that area. The size of the spot seems to vary from dog to dog, but the location of it doesn’t seem to vary that much. And some dogs react more than others; some not at all.
I have a spot on my back that gives me the willies if you press on it - maybe it’s the same thing. It’s sort of a ticklish feeling, but not quite
